Job DescriptionAerospace Materials Technician Shape the Future of Space Exploration!Location: Merritt Island, FLIndustry: Aerospace/ManufacturingSalary: $36/hrEmployment Type: 6 month contract (potential for extension or conversion)Shifts: B shift, Mon-Thurs, 2PM-12:30AM (possible OT Fridays)Summary:This role involves setting up production areas, operating precision tools, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.Responsibilities:Application of thermal protection systems (TPS) onto flight hardwarePerform surface preparation, fixturing, adhesive application, gap filling, and vacuum bagging of large structures.Adhere to equipment requirements, methods, and sequences of operation to be followed in the fabrication of parts using materials such as sealants, primers, RTV adhesives, solvents, and consumable materialsPerform second-party verifications and hardware inspections of engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures.Configure new production work areas with the necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow and minimize any potential delays during the transition to high-rate manufacturing.Operate material handling equipment (forklifts, cranes, etc.) and precision calibrated tools (torque wrenches, micrometers, etc.) to maintain high safety and quality standards.Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for safety and efficiency, enhancing overall productivity.Drive the transition from development to production, proactively performing troubleshooting and maintenance as needed.Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.Tasks involve preparing and testing payload systems and hardware by applying TPS materials, conducting sealing, repairs, testing, and assisting with vehicle assembly and installation.Required Qualifications:Minimum of High School Diploma or GED.Minimum 2-4+ years' experience in aerospace manufacturing, integration, aircraft heavy depot level maintenance or another related fieldAbility to interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.Expertise in various applications, including adhesives, sealants, and thermal blankets.Experience with precision calibration tools including torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers, laser tracker, and optical measuring instruments.Ability to lift 50lbs and comfortable working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces.Proficiency in digital tools, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Desired:A&P Airframe & Powerplant licenseAerospace technician certification or similarExperience with cryogenic systems, fluid assembly, and aerospace/launch vehicle assembly, crucial for ensuring the integrity and reliability of our spacecraft's propulsion systems.Knowledge of precision assembly processes and handling large aerospace components.Strong technical and leadership skills with keen attention to detail, essential for leading teams in complex integration tasks.Effective communication and collaboration skills in teams to foster a positive work environment.Experience working on aerospace payloads, fairings, capsules.ATF Certification for handling and/or installing explosivesContinuous improvement mindset and curiosity for optimizing processes, driving innovation.Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification. Willingness to work overtime.
