To adhere to published policies and procedures distributed by the district and the school. Job Duties / ResponsibilitiesComply with the approved Code of Ethics for Educational Sign Language InterpretersBe aware of students' goals and objectivesInterpret spoken English into the language appropriate for the student (Signed English, ASL, PSE)Interpret language of the student into spoken EnglishConvey the content and intent of the messageInterpret for DHH students in mainstream classesProvide the education team with information about the student's use of interpreter servicesAssist students and staff with use and care of frequent modulator equipmentRespect the rights of students and staffAssist in appropriate placement and seating to gain access to information presented through the interpreterAttend appropriate in-services within interpreter's work calendar and certification requirementsParticipate in student meetings as part of the educational team when appropriateOther duties as assigned within parameters outlined in collective bargaining agreementMaintain student confidentiality at all timesThe interpreter will provide support for district staff/parents as needed if appropriately licensedDisplay professionalism in all aspects of the jobMaintain appropriate Educational Sign Language Interpreter CertificationEducationAppropriate certification approval by the Illinois State Board of EducationBilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.Experience / KnowledgeEffective communication skillsExcellent organizational skillsExperience working with students in an educational setting preferred.
