Audio Engineers must have a journey-level knowledge and experience with theater sound production. Audio Engineer must also have a strong work ethic and customer service skills, communicate effectively with others, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.Audio Engineers are required to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and on short notice. Examples of DutiesUnder the general supervision of the Playhouse BOH Coordinator and/or the Assistant BOH Coordinator, Audio Engineers are responsible for producing and reproducing sound/effects, amplifying, mixing, and balancing live microphones for theater performance, concerts, and special events. They are also responsible for maintaining over all sound levels and sound quality, which includes maintaining sound equipment, collaborate with producers / directors and make appropriate decisions regarding overall sound quality, direct other crew members with stage set up in regard to system set up needs. Typical QualificationsProfessional experience in sound quality production for live theater. Typical knowledge and attributes include:Troubleshooting skills, understanding of signal flow and live mixing.Strong balanced hearing ability.Ability to create a microphone and stage plot based on production needs.Technical knowledge of Qlab Audio and Video Playback, as well as digital audio consoles such as Allen & Heath dLive, MAC OS and networking skills are a plus.Knowledge and capabilities of different types of sound equipment and techniques. Such as, proper gain structure of the of sound system, microphone use and techniques, and properly EQ problem frequencies to eliminate feedback.Typical attributes required for this position include:Communicates effectively, in a multicultural environment.Team oriented - works well in a team setting or individually.Resourceful and innovative.Ability to exert physical effort, such as walking, climbing, standing, reaching pulling, lifting up to 50 lbs., bending and twisting.Sitting or standing for extended periods of time, up to 3 hours at a time. Supplemental Information SPECIAL PROVISIONSBilingual Pay - Bilingual pay of $0.58 per hour may be provided to employees who pass a proficiency examination in a second language such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish. Bilingual pay shall be provided based on the need of the department and approval of the City. Eligibility and need will be determined on a case-by-case basis.PARS Program - Part-Time Employees are required to participate in the Public Retirement Services (PARS) retirement savings/investment program in-lieu of Social Security.
