Duties & Responsibilities Do you enjoy turning messy data into clear insights? Want to see how numbers drive strategy and decision-making in local government? Step into a paid internship where you won't just observe-you'll help build major budget documents, analyze real operational data, and support initiatives that impact an entire community. You will also gain experience with:• Build components of the Annual Budget Book, contributing to a key document shared with residents, staff, and elected officials. • Organize and analyze data to support performance management and data-driven decision-making. • Assist with developing metrics, dashboards, and insights for operational improvement. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:• Understanding of budgeting, finance, or public administration concepts. • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, charts, and tables. • Interest in local government operations, public service, or performance measurement. • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. • Ability to organize and interpret data to support decision-making. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to manage time effectively and work independently. • Willingness to learn and take initiative. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:• Current graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Public Administration, Finance, Economics, Political Science, Data Analytics, or a related field. • Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework (rising juniors and seniors preferred). NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:• Able to work 30-40 hours per week during the summer internship. • Available to work in person at the Town of Clayton. • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and commitment to public service.
