What You'll Do Are you a detail-obsessed proofreader with a passion for accuracy and a working knowledge of and/or interest in legal documents? Join our Document Services team and play a vital role in ensuring the precision and consistency of high-value legal and financial materials. As a Legal Proofreader, you'll work independently while collaborating closely with a skilled team, applying expert knowledge of grammar, legal style, and formatting to deliver flawless work under tight deadlines. We're looking for someone proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning-especially when it comes to mastering the latest software including AI tools and best practices. * Comprehensive proofreading: Perform cold reads for grammar, spelling, usage, consistency, and formatting across complex legal and financial documents * Legal document expertise: Review materials with confidence in legal terminology, case citations, and formatting expectations * Quality control support: Compare revised or converted documents against originals to ensure accuracy * Manual markups: Apply redlining and edits manually with high precision * Style compliance: Ensure alignment with Bluebook, Chicago Manual of Style, and firm best practices * Table and financial accuracy: Carefully review data-heavy content, including financial tables, for errors or inconsistencies * Collaborative independence: Work autonomously while contributing to a supportive team environment * Global readiness: Apply UK spelling and style conventions when needed The schedule for this position is: * Thursday: 11:00 am - 8:00 pm ET (including a one-hour break) * Friday through Sunday: 11:00 am - 9:00 pm ET (including a one-hour break) * Flexibility to work overtime as needed What You'll Bring * Education: A college degree or business certification is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered * Experience: 5+ years as a legal proofreader strongly preferred * Client service mindset: Ability to thrive under pressure while delivering exceptional accuracy and professionalism * Software proficiency: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat If you're passionate about precision, thrive in a fast-paced legal environment, and take pride in your proofreading skills, we'd love to hear from you! Compensation The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary.
