Posting DetailsPosition Information Job Title Visiting Assistant Professor, Italian Studies Rank Assistant Professor Tenure Information Non-Tenure Track Summary The Department of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures at John Carroll University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Italian beginning fall 2026. It carries a 4-4 teaching load.We seek applications from generalists able to teach introductory courses in Italian language and culture, as well as courses in English on Italian literary and cultural productions. The ideal candidate will help maintain a robust program in Italian Studies centered on proficiency-based language instruction and high-impact pedagogies. Full consideration will be given to applications that are complete by December 15, 2025, although applications will be accepted until the position is filled.Duties and Responsibilities The primary responsibility of this position is to support the minor in Italian Studies at John Carroll University by delivering courses in the three-semester introductory sequence of Italian language and culture, and one course per semester that contributes to JCU's Integrative Core Curriculum (taught in English) on Italian literature, culture, and society on topics such as Italy today, Dante's Divine Comedy or Italian Culture through Arts and Music. Other expectations include active participation in the life of the department and university, including attendance at departmental and university meetings, workshops, etc.Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Italian or a closely related field. The degree must be in hand by August 2026.Experience teaching Italian language and culture.Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education.Native or near-native fluency in Italian and English.Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching or developing Core Curriculum or general education courses.Familiarity with high-impact pedagogies such as technology-enhanced learning.Normal Work Location, Hours and Conditions This position works in-person from our campus in University Heights, Ohio. University core business hours are generally 8:30 am - 5 pm.
