SummaryWhy It's a Great Opportunity: Start your career with Pierce County as a temporary extra hire Maintenance Worker with the Wastewater team! You will be an integral part of our team performing various maintenance functions across Pierce County. Some of those tasks include facilities cleaning, landscaping, construction work around manholes, concrete work, and bagging fertilizer. As an extra hire maintenance worker, you will enjoy a regular schedule Monday - Friday (Wastewater changes to 4-10's for summertime, Monday through Thursday.) You can count on Pierce County to provide PPE, tools, and a safe place to work. You will quickly see this is a place with a variety of paths for a future career with Pierce County.Core Daily Responsibilities:Perform routine pump station inspections, making repairs. Assist in treatment plant cleaning by hosing roto-strainers, weirs, clarifiers, digesters, dumpster areas and walkways. Perform routine facility maintenance duties to include but not limited to emergency cleanup, hanging bulletin boards, replacing light bulbs, lamps, and lenses.Maintain and safely operate small power tools and landscape equipment.Work is performed outside sometimes under adverse weather conditions.Work reporting location may vary depending on job site location.Set up MUTCD compliant work zones for sewer maintenance crews.Serve as Washington State certified flagger safely guiding and directing traffic through work zones. Minimum Qualifications Experience in wastewater, construction, equipment operation, or experience performing skilled or semi-skilled labor such as traffic operations, road maintenance, landscaping, or heavy construction.
