Position Description:The Mechanical Design Engineer - Hydronics & Process Piping is a key technical role at NDBS, responsible for the design and engineering of hydronic systems, industrial piping networks, and HVAC/R mechanical infrastructure from concept through construction. This position is heavily focused on piping system design, fluid distribution, equipment integration, and field coordination in complex industrial and commercial environments. You will work closely with field teams, project managers, and preconstruction to ensure piping and hydronic systems are engineered for constructability, efficiency, and code compliance.Position Information:Position Type: Full TimeTravel Required: 15%Department: EngineeringLocation: St. Louis, MO 63146 OR Remote, United StatesSkills & Responsibilities (including but not limited to):Adhering to NDBS Core ValuesSafetyWe Answer Our PhonesAlways InnovatingCollaborative PartnershipsReputationEntrepreneurshipHydronics & Process Piping Design (Primary Focus)Design and engineer hydronic heating and cooling water systemsDesign industrial and process piping systems including chilled water, hot water, condenser water, glycol, refrigerant, compressed air, and specialty process pipingPerform pipe sizing, pump selection, expansion analysis, and equipment integrationDevelop piping layouts, isometrics, and system schematics in RevitApply knowledge of fluid dynamics, pressure drop, flow rates, and system balancingEnsure designs meet applicable mechanical and plumbing codesDevelop Sequences of Operation related to hydronic and piping systemsCoordinate closely with field teams to ensure constructability of piping systemsHVAC Mechanical DesignPerform load calculations and psychrometric analysisDesign and plan layouts of equipment, duct, and piping systemsDrive HVAC design from concept through construction drawings utilizing RevitApplication engineering for refrigeration and HVAC/R systemsProject Execution:Perform internal turnover meetings to identify project scope, risks, resource requirements, communications, schedule, and budgetsCollaborate with preconstruction department to ensure project bid scope is developed into design documents.Collaborate with operations department to ensure a shared understanding of project scope and overall project executionDrive quality control through on site project visits and punch list creation.Qualifications and Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in related Engineering field, Mechanical preferred5+ years of experience specifically in hydronic and/or industrial process piping designStrong background in fluid systems, piping layouts, and equipment integrationExperience designing piping systems for industrial, healthcare, food processing, or manufacturing facilitiesProficiency in Revit for piping system modelingSolid understanding of mechanical, plumbing, and energy codes related to hydronics and pipingHVAC/R experience required, refrigeration experience a plusHealthcare design experience a plusSelf-motivated with strong time management and organizational skillsAbility to thrive in deadline-driven, fast-paced environmentsStrong communication and collaboration skillNDBS is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.Why Join Kelso Industries?
