Lindop School District 92 Reports To: Director of Special Services Assignment: Full-Time, 178 workdays or as per the Agreement between the BOE for Lindop School District 92 and The Lindop Support Staff Association, IEA-NEA Job Summary The Paraprofessional provides instructional, behavioral, and personal support to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. The position assists in reinforcing classroom instruction, supporting positive student behavior, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The paraprofessional works closely with teachers, administrators, and families to meet students' academic and social-emotional needs. Scope of Work Paraprofessionals are assigned to support the teacher's work with students and operate under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Although federal and state requirements exist to become an instructional paraprofessional, paraprofessionals are non-certified staff and do not plan or deliver direct instruction. Instead, they provide instructional support under the teacher's guidance, including reinforcement of previously introduced skills and concepts. Paraprofessionals may be assigned to work with individual students or small groups in various learning environments such as classrooms, media centers, or computer labs. They may provide one-on-one tutoring for eligible students when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher. In addition, paraprofessionals may assist with classroom management, organization of instructional materials, and serve as translators when appropriate. Responsibilities Work effectively in a team environment, providing responsive instruction and behavioral support to assigned student(s). Apply knowledge of positive behavior and intervention strategies to encourage student success. Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and administrators. Assist students with classroom activities under the direction of the certified teacher. Support instructional modifications recommended by the planning team. Assist with reading and math interventions. Participate in appropriate staff development programs. Assist teachers with supervision during lunchroom, playground, and bus activities. Support the behavioral management system as directed by the teacher. Assist with daily charting of academic and behavioral progress. Assist students with dressing, undressing, feeding, toileting, and health needs, as necessary, which may include bending, stooping, turning, or lifting. Prepare materials and reinforce concepts and skills introduced by the teacher. Perform routine clerical tasks as needed. Help maintain an orderly and neat classroom environment. Attend faculty and special meetings as specified by the principal and/or teacher(s). Follow building and classroom procedures established by the principal and teacher(s). Participate in professional development as directed by supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned by the teacher(s), principal, or supervisor/designee. Work Schedule & Compensation: Hours: The regular workday shall be eight (8) hours in length, exclusive of a duty-free lunch period, and subject to adjustments as required for professional responsibilities, staff meetings, or other assigned duties. Workdays: Aligned with the Lindop School District 92 academic calendar Pay Rate: According to the Lindop School District 92 - Article VIII - Compensation and Benefits SALARY AND BENEFITS: Hourly wage per the Lindop Support Staff Association, IEA-NEA 2021-2025 contract. Includes 100% Board-paid Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) contribution toward single health insurance premium, accrued sick and personal days, and term life insurance coverage. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements: Experience working with children and youth preferred Endorsements: Paraprofessional certification registered with ISBE required Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.
