What This Job Entails:The Lab Networking Field Service Technician plays a hands-on role supporting enterprise lab network infrastructure across multiple lab sites in the Bay Area. This technician is responsible for hardware installation, cabling, equipment relocation, on-site troubleshooting, and documenting work performed across lab environments. You'll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and act as the on-site presence for the broader infrastructure and networking team.Scope of Work:Support complex, evolving network environments within Engineering Lab spaces (not traditional data centers)Travel between buildings and labs across the Bay Area based on daily task requirementsWork with cross-functional engineering, operations, and remote infrastructure teams to support lab network deployments, changes, and ongoing needsRepresent the team as the on-site point of contact for lab users needing networking or infrastructure supportPrioritize customer service and flexibility in dynamic lab environmentsWork with moderate supervision while following SOPs and established processesRoles and Responsibilities:Install, move, and decommission lab networking equipment, including switches, servers, racks, cabling, and cable management infrastructureComplete onsite surveys to identify network deployment requirements and physical constraints (e.g. rack space, power, cabling paths)Accurately label and document lab assets including devices and cablingPerform structured copper and fiber cabling per design specs and SOPsUpdate and manage tasks using a standard ticketing system (e.g. Jira, ServiceNow), maintaining clear communication and timely updatesAct as Smart Hands support for remote teams-assisting with tasks such as device reboots, cable swaps, visual inspections, and basic diagnosticsFollow all lab access, safety, and security proceduresSupport other lab infrastructure needs as required (patching, audits, inventory checks, cable cleanup, etc.)Collaborate with engineering teams to troubleshoot connectivity or hardware-related issues in lab spacesRequired Qualifications & Skills:High school diploma or GED with 2-5 years of hands-on experience in networking, infrastructure, or lab support rolesProven ability to follow documented procedures and adapt to new assignments with minimal supervisionStrong communication and customer service skills - ability to work directly with engineers and respond to urgent needsExperience installing and cabling networking equipment (CAT5e, CAT6, fiber: SM/MM)Knowledge of copper/fiber test equipment and cable standardsUnderstanding of basic networking concepts and enterprise infrastructureComfortable using ticketing systems and documenting workProficient in Microsoft Office tools and email communicationAble to physically lift 50 lbs, move between buildings, and work in standing or crouched positions as neededMust have reliable transportation for local travel between lab sites in the Bay AreaPreferred Qualifications:FOA (Fiber Optic Association) Infrastructure CertificationCompTIA Network+ CertificationCCNA or equivalent networking certificationCertifications related to network infrastructure, structured cabling, or field tech servicesExperience supporting lab environments or office networking deploymentsFamiliarity with remote collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Slack) and network troubleshooting softwareWork Environment & Physical Demands:Must be comfortable working in dynamic lab environments with frequent movement between sitesPhysical tasks include racking gear, moving equipment, and running cabling under or behind lab benchesOccasional repetitive hand and wrist movementPosition may require occasional extended hours or short-notice on-site supportSalary Range$28.76 - $45.40 USD (Hourly)Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.Further, the salary information noted above is a range that consists of a minimum and maximum rate of pay for this specific position.
