Director of Business Development - Higher Education Location: Anaheim, CASalary: $115,000 - $195,000 Overview This role leads business development efforts for Higher Education and DSA projects across Southern California, focused on building relationships, securing new work, and advancing strategic, mission-aligned growth. The position partners closely with leadership and internal teams to translate vision into action and deliver high-impact education projects. Must HavesProven business development leadership in construction, with direct experience in Higher Education and DSA projectsStrong understanding of General Contracting and Construction Management delivery, public-sector processes, and the Southern California higher education marketDemonstrated success securing new work, building long-term institutional relationships, and advancing pursuits from opportunity through awardStrategic, mission-driven mindset with the ability to evaluate opportunities based on risk, value, funding, and organizational fitExcellent communication and presentation skills with confidence engaging senior-level clients and internal partnersCollaborative, cross-functional approach with willingness to travel throughout Southern California Nice to HavesEstablished relationships within California higher education systems or public agenciesExperience with RFQs, RFPs, alternative delivery methods, and campus capital planning or bond-funded projectsAbility to interpret construction documents and support design-build, CM at Risk, or lease-leaseback pursuitsExperience representing an organization at industry events or mentoring business development team members ResponsibilitiesIdentify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the Higher Education sector across Southern CaliforniaBuild, maintain, and expand trusted relationships with campus leaders, facilities teams, consultants, and industry partnersDevelop and manage a healthy pipeline of DSA and higher education projects aligned with organizational goalsLead business development strategies that support sustainable growth and long-term market presenceTranslate high-level vision and strategy into actionable highlighting projects and pursuitsCollaborate closely with internal teams to develop compelling pursuit strategies, proposals, and interview presentationsEvaluate potential opportunities by assessing scope, delivery method, risk profile, funding source, and strategic valueTrack market trends, funding landscapes, and emerging opportunities within the higher education spaceIncrease organizational visibility through active participation in industry events, associations, and networking forumsSupport leadership in advancing mission-aligned initiatives that create lasting impact within the communities served
