As the company continues to grow, HPM is investing in new internal capabilities that allow it to support clients earlier and more strategically in the capital program lifecycle.POSITION OBJECTIVEHPM is seeking a Director of Engineering to establish and lead an internal engineering capability that strengthens HPM's advisory, program development, and client-facing services.This is a newly created, senior leadership role responsible for setting engineering strategy, guiding engineering services delivery, and building a scalable team over time. The Director of Engineering will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a bridge between executive leadership and operational teams, and a key partner to business development and program leadership.This role is not intended to be a hands-on production engineering position. While technical credibility is critical, the primary focus is leadership, strategic planning, client engagement, and long-term capability building.POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIESEstablish and lead HPM's engineering services strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goalsServe as a senior engineering advisor to clients during early planning, feasibility, and evaluation phasesCollaborate with program development, operations, and business development teams to support new and existing client relationshipsLead the recruitment, mentoring, and development of engineering talent as the function growsOversee engineering services delivery, ensuring quality, consistency, and alignment with client expectationsSupport client pursuits and presentations by providing engineering insight and options for owner reviewDevelop internal standards, best practices, and processes for engineering servicesEnsure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, and safety requirementsParticipate in executive, client, and stakeholder meetings as a representative of engineering leadershipSKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) license required or strongly preferred10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or client-facing roleProven experience managing or overseeing large-scale engineering projects or programsBackground in civil site design or land development preferred; other engineering disciplines may be considered with strong leadership breadthStrong understanding of modern engineering practices, regulations, and compliance requirementsDemonstrated ability to lead teams, manage resources, and guide strategic initiativesExcellent communication and relationship-building skillsProven fiscal responsibility with an understanding of scope, fees, schedules, and market forcesComfortable operating at the intersection of technical expertise, business strategy, and client advisory
