Maintains equipment to technical and safety standards and regulations.Current recruitment is for our Fleet Services Solid Waste Shop. Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Applies extensive welding techniques to fabricate, repair, and maintain a wide range of equipment and tools used in the manufacturing and maintenance work within the City; uses various metal working equipment, measuring tools, and design techniques to accomplish goals.Conceptualizes projects from determined job specifications and forms drawings as needed; interprets blueprints, plans, and fabrication specifications to complete projects.Performs preventative maintenance and scheduled care on light, heavy, or specialized equipment; keeps accurate performance and maintenance records for identified equipment and tools. Creates, fabricates, welds, and produces machines, parts, and structures from raw materials to fulfill needs of the City; plans procedures, determines appropriate welding equipment and methods, and identifies needed components and specifications.Operates angle grinders, lathes, mills, drill presses, and other fabricating equipment; applies all safety regulations and compliance standards.Analyzes problems and issues with vehicles, engines, and fleet equipment; performs routine maintenance on all City vehicles, replaces parts, and integrates new technology; repairs, overhauls, and installs brakes, hydraulic controls, gear boxes, and other mechanical systems; fabricates lifting components, towing components, hydraulics, shields, and enclosures.Repairs machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps; tests and inspects welded surfaces and structures to identify flaws or weaknesses; applies various forms of welding and knowledge to fabricate, refurbish, and repair.Trains and educates other staff in various welding, fabrication, and operation of equipment; communicates and ensures compliance with safety regulations and standards; monitors work to ensure all protocols and policies are being followed. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsA valid State driver's license is required. Obtain and maintain a Class B CDL within 6 months of hire date. This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides: Fabricating equipment and other equipment as assigned. Education and Experience: High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate AND three (3) years of experience in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of varied automotive or industrial equipment, including one (1) year in the repair and/or maintenance of heavy-duty equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.NOTE: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
