The group leader is responsible for supporting, implementing and overseeing the After School @ AYS program located at the Cormier Youth Center. They serve as a supportive team member, a positive role model for youth, and an enthusiastic participant in large and small group activities.OUR CULTURE: Welcome to After School @AYS. Our middle school age after school program has been organized to provide supervision, engaging activities and leadership activities. Andover Youth Services' After School @ AYS is a drop-in program for middle school students that meets daily from dismissal until 6:00pm. Responsibilities1. Program Supervision:Oversee and support the after school programs and activities as needed. Including but not limited to sports and fitness, STEM & Enrichment, leadership and community service. Provide a physically and psychologically safe environment and atmosphere for youth and staff. Establish a fun, developmentally engaging environment & activities via appropriate techniques.Build positive relationships, engage and monitor youth in the program at all times. Ensure proper building coverage and staff to youth ratios. Actively engage in program to include facilitating and participating in activities, administering snack, clean up and organization, effective site set up and site break down, assisting with running the after school program. Respond to incidents and emergencies, medical related and otherwise, following appropriate procedures and training. Build and maintain effective relationships with the youth and parents/guardians.Provide front desk coverage including checking youth in and out of the building, answering phone calls as needed and supporting with MyRec functions. Assist with the daily operation of the AYS Concession Stand.Make announcements over the PA system including up coming activities, time warnings and general announcements for the youth.2. Administration: Work effectively as part of a site team to build and maintain quality programming, operations and support team development. Maintain an open dialogue with the Full Time staff and Assistant Group Leaders regarding aspects of program status and for support as needed. Support consistency between AYS rules/ core values and school policies. Adhere to dress code policies. Work on early release day's and family engagement programming. Maintain professional development trainings offered through AYS.Maintain an effective working relationship with AYS Staff and other program staff utilizing positive communication strategies.Participate in a culture of open feedback, both receiving and giving. Maintain an attitude of positive flexibility to meet the Middle School Childcare program needs.ASSOCIATION EXPECTATIONS:Acts as a role model within and outside the department. QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Meet AYS requirements of a Group Leader:At least 17 years of age, work under the direct supervision of a group leader, and either.Have a high school diploma or equivalent: orBe currently enrolled in a high school programCapacity to engage and interact with children in a nurturing and creative manner.Exhibit desire to work as part of a team.Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
