Development AssociateThe Development Associateis a valued member of the Living Classrooms Development team and the local NationalCapital Region team. This person must be a self-starter, problem-solver, teamplayer, and flexible to changing schedules and programs. Thisperson will havea variety of job duties. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal,writing/communication, and organizational skills with the following core responsibilities: Donor Relations- Network and build relationships withprospective and current donors- Steward relationships with prospectiveand current donors- Support our National Capital Region'sdevelopment efforts in order to achieve our fundraising goals- Support capital campaign and identifysponsors for naming opportunitiesProposal Writing/Prospect Research- Write compelling proposals,solicitation letters, and reports- Continually research and seek newsources of funding including government, corporate, and foundation grants- Study and understand the history,structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.- Research grant opportunities fromgovernment and non-government agencies.- Draft grant proposals and supportingdocuments based on the funding requirements of the organization.- Work collaboratively with organization,department, and program leadership to produce grant proposals and reports.- Submit proposals to grant coordinatorsfor approval.- Respond to internal and externalqueries on drafted and submitted proposals.- Maintain positive relationships withfund providers and other stakeholders.- Maintain records and submit reportsrelated to grant opportunities. Fundraising and SpecialEvents- Assist in planning and staffing fundraisingspecial events- Assist in selling sponsorships andsecuring in-kind donations such as food, auction items, etc.- Attend and assist at fundraisers andnetworking opportunities on behalf of the organization- Any other duties as assigned by theVice President of DevelopmentAdministrative- Support all administrativeneeds related to development, including mailings, tracking donations, and othertasks as assigned. CorporateVolunteer & Partner Engagement- Approachnew prospects/corporations to identify volunteer partnership opportunities- Supportvolunteer events in the National Capital Region as needed- Cultivate positive relationships with corporatepartners- Collaborate with internal teams and the Directorof Volunteerism to identify meaningful and high-impact volunteer opportunities.- Represent the organization at community fairs,corporate service days, and networking events to strengthen engagement.Required Skills, Experience, and Other• Bachelor's degree inEnglish, communications, creative writing or a related area OR demonstratedsuperior writing skills• Excellent interpersonalskills• Attention to detail is amust• Willingness and ability totravel around the DMV for events and meetings• Comfortable bringing new donorsto tour and learn more about Living Classrooms.• A minimum of two years of experiencein grant writing is preferred• Excellent knowledge ofproposal submission and fundraising process• Ability to work well underpressure and tight deadlines• Strong research skills andknowledge of information sources• Multitasking,organizational, and time management skills• Attention to detail is amust• Familiarity with the DMV in general,Anacostia River, Kingman Island, DC history, culture, and currentevents/climate preferred.DisclaimerThe above statements areintended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed bypeople assigned to this classification. S/he will regularly receive both informal andformal feedback on job performance. LC-NCR manages multiple sites in theNational Capital Region, and our principal office is located at 156 Q St SW.Kingman and Heritage Islands Conservation Area can be accessed from RFK StadiumLot 6, off Oklahoma Avenue in NE DC. The James C.
