With a nationwide footprint and opportunities for growth across multiple locations and disciplines, SPL is a place where you can build a career while making a real-world impact.We're searching for a motivated and driven Laboratory Intern to support our team for a 3-month temporary assignment in Houston, TX. In this role, you'll support daily laboratory operations through sample preparation, analytical testing, and accurate data entry in accordance with approved methods, SOPs, and quality standards. You'll receive training on laboratory instrumentation, including routine calibration and basic troubleshooting, while documenting and reviewing results in LIMS. You'll follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), support quality and compliance initiatives, and maintain a safe, organized laboratory environment through adherence to safety protocols, inventory management, and general housekeeping. This is an exciting opportunity for candidates with little to no laboratory experience who are eager to learn and gain hands-on exposure in an Oil & Gas testing environment. What You'll DoPerform sample preparation, analytical testing, and data entry in accordance with approved methods, SOPs, and quality standardsOperate and maintain laboratory instruments, including routine calibration, basic troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance following trainingDocument and review results within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)Support the laboratory's quality, safety, and compliance systems by following Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), adhering to established protocols, and participating in audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiativesMaintain and assist with laboratory housekeeping standards and inventory management as neededPerform other duties as assignedRequirementsWhat We're Looking ForHigh School Diploma or equivalent is required; candidates must be actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Industrial Technology, or a related scientific fieldPrior internship, academic laboratory research, or hands-on professional lab experience is preferred but not requiredBasic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer applications What You'll Need to SucceedAbility to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environmentStrong attention to detail and consistent adherence to SOPs and quality standardsEffective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to changing workloadsSolid organizational skills and the ability to stay focused throughout duration of shiftQuick learner with the ability to grasp new laboratory techniques, systems, and processesCritical thinking skills to identify discrepancies and escalate concerns appropriatelyClear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a teamWhat We OfferCompetitive compensationHands-on professional experience in a collaborative environmentExposure to industry best practices and operational processesMentorship and development opportunitiesWork Schedule & TravelTemporary 3-month position following a Monday-Friday schedule with hours varying between 1 PM - 9 PM CSTWeekend on-call availability required for call-in coverage due to staff absencesOur Commitment to Diversity & InclusionAt SPL, we believe that a diverse team is a strong team.
