Strongsville Fire and Emergency Services is an all-hazards emergency response agency staffed, trained, equipped, and ready to respond to emergency calls due to fires, motor vehicle accidents, medical and trauma emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescue incidents. The Department performs many non-emergency functions such as: fire inspections and code enforcement, construction plan review, public education including fire safety, CPR and first aid training, and fire extinguisher training. Examples of Duties Performs fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescues, fire prevention, public education and public relations activities.Responds to fires, accidents, medical emergencies, and calls for service or assistance.Investigates calls of potential fires; odors; smoke and carbon monoxide alarms; medical and private alarms, and burning complaints.Participates in company inspections, preplans, and building familiarization tours.Performs daily equipment checks, inspection of advanced life support equipment and medications, and routine maintenance activities to ensure proper operation of firefighting, EMS, and other emergency equipment.Completes EMS reports, EMS medication logs, daily vehicle maintenance check sheets, advanced life support equipment calibration and operational checks, vehicle repair forms, and station activity log entries as required.Tests and maintains equipment as required on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis.Replaces expended equipment and supplies.Performs routine and seasonal maintenance and housekeeping activities to insure a clean, orderly, and professional work environment.Any other duties assigned by Fire Department company officers or administrative staff. Typical Qualifications Applicant must be a United States citizen.Applicants must be twenty-one years old on or prior to the date of certification to the eligibility list.Applicants must have received a high school diploma or passed the General Education Development Test (GED) prior to the date of certification to the eligibility list.Applicant must have a current valid State of Ohio driver's license.Applicant must have a current valid Paramedic Certification from the State of Ohio.Applicant must have a current valid Firefighter II Certification from the State of Ohio.Applicant must have a certificate from Cuyahoga Community College dated within one (1) year of the date of certification to the eligibility list confirming that the Applicant has taken the Firefighter's Physical Agility Test and has attained a passing time of four (4) minutes and thirty (30) seconds or less. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily.
