Metallurgical Laboratory Technician

Talascend is currently seeking a Metallurgical Laboratory Technician for a long-term contract opportunity with our client in Everett, Washington (State). Overview This role will provide support as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on materials and fuels testing, characterization, and supplier qualification for next generation material and components for sodium cooled fast reactors. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of hands-on laboratory-based materials testing and characterization activities to support the Natrium reactor Perform metallography and characterization for a wide range of metallic and ceramic materials Generate reports detailing characterization techniques and resulting data Perform hands-on radiation work, including work inside of a glovebox Operate and maintain materials focused laboratory equipment such as furnaces, polishing equipment, and metallography equipment Assist with the design, fabrication, and operation of custom laboratory experiments Coordinate receipt inspections of incoming materials, sectioning of materials, and shipping of materials with both on-site and off-site individuals Qualifications A Technology or Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Preferred: A degree in Materials Science/Engineering/Technology, Metallurgical Engineering/Technology or a related technical discipline Requirements Demonstrated hands-on laboratory experience is required Metallography and sample prep experience is required A high attention to detail and quality control is required Desired: Experience with radiation work, including working within gloveboxes Desired: Strong communication skills The service provider will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect, and a desire to foster teamwork Preferred Requirements SEM-EDS, microscopy, and other characterization experience Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, or others Lab management experience (e.g., maintaining spaces and/or equipment) #ind123We thank all applicants for their interest.
