Job Title: Instrumentation & Electrical TechnicianClassification: Full Time, Hourly, Non-ExemptDepartment: MaintenanceLocation: New Castle, DEDirect Supervisor: Maintenance SupervisorJob Summary: The I&E Technician is responsible for safely, correctly, and efficiently maintaining, repairing, and/or replacing the physical equipment in the plant. The Technician installs, troubleshoots, services, and performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment. The technician efficiently repairs or, if necessary, replaces the plant equipment to permit the plant to operate continuously. The I&E technician meets this responsibility by understanding and adhering to standard I&E procedures and techniques.Supervisor Responsibilities: NoneEssential Responsibilities:Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of: low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear, motors, dry and liquid-filled transformers, fire alarm systems.Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of: Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), control valves, electronic and pneumatic instruments, security system cameras, monitors, and controls, including removal and reinstallation.Installs and repairs wiring systems and devices, including conduit, Sealtite, Coreflex cabling, and wiring devices.Performs predictive and preventative maintenance on all plant instrumentation and electrical equipment.Assists in developing and implementing preventative maintenance procedures.Ensures proper documentation of testing on plant controls and system modifications.Works collaboratively with other employees to resolve problems and repair plant equipment.May be asked to perform mechanical functions or assist mechanics when needed or when a mechanic is unavailable.Operates various types of mobile equipment, including but not limited to forklifts, scissor lifts, and high-reach lifts.May be asked to perform repairs at the Transportation shop or on transportation equipment.Keeps the Maintenance Supervisor informed of any materials, supplies, or spare instrumentation required or used.Performs other related duties as directed by supervision.Required Skills/Abilities:Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance test and participate in random testing thereafter.Must be able to pass a background investigation and maintain eligibility in accordance with TSA TWIC requirements.Knowledge of basic and advanced electrical and electronic theories.Knowledge of relay logic, ladder logic, and control logic.Knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley preferred).Knowledge of basic and advanced instrumentation and control theories.Knowledge of control loop calibration and theory (Foxboro and Rosemount/Fisher preferred).General knowledge of low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and electrical distribution equipment.Knowledge of dry-type and liquid-filled transformers.Knowledge of industrial motors and motor control systems.Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).Skilled in the use of instrumentation calibration and testing equipment, including but not limited to: Digital Volt Meters (DVMs), Deadweight testers, Manometers, Oscilloscopes, HART communicators,Pressure testing equipment, Fluke multimeters.Ability to troubleshoot equipment efficiently and effectively.Ability to identify and obtain correct parts for equipment repairs.Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone for troubleshooting assistance and parts procurement.Ability to learn from and work well with others.Ability to install conduit, Sealtite, and Coreflex cabling.Strong mechanical aptitude for removal and installation of electrical devices and instrumentation.Ability to work safely in an industrial environment.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, loop sheets, and technical documentation.Knowledge of transformer/rectifier theory.Full understanding of electrical hazard classifications.Ability to prioritize and complete calibrations through the current maintenance program for repairs and preventative maintenance work orders.Education and Experience:High school diploma with five (5) years of experience in electrical and/or instrumentation crafts OR a related degree from an accredited technical school or university with three (3) years of relevant experience.Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an industrial facility, preferably in a chemical or petrochemical plant.ISA Certification of at least Level III preferred.Formal training in specialized subjects such as process instrumentation and control, motor control circuitry, National Electrical Code, computer repair, Fisher Delta V DCS, HVAC systems, boiler operation, and related technical studies will be considered a plus.Physical Requirements:Frequently climbs stairs and ladders.Frequently bends, stands, and lifts up to 50 lbs.Must be able to work outdoors in varying climate conditions.Occasionally kneels, squats, and crawls.Must be able to walk on secure elevated process platforms more than 15 feet high.Must be capable of using fall protection equipment.Able to operate powered industrial vehicles.Ability and agility to work at various heights and locations.Ability to pass a respirator fit test.Ability to work in a magnetic field environment.This position description is not intended to be and should not be construed as an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, or working conditions associated with this position.
