This role oversees curriculum and instruction across all content areas and ensures that programs align with the district's mission and support strong academic outcomes for every student. The Director also collaborates closely with the Director of Special Services to support students with disabilities and ensure instructional alignment across all learner groups.The Director works with the Superintendent to coordinate key functions and advance strategic priorities. They lead building principals in instructional leadership, guiding them in strengthening instructional practices, implementing curriculum and assessment expectations, and supporting continuous improvement across schools. The Director also facilitates principal meetings focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment to ensure clear communication and alignment across the district.They oversee curriculum functions across mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, art, music, media services, differentiation, and intervention. This includes directing curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, and recommending improvements based on identified needs and evaluation findings. The Director manages the annual budget for instructional programs and guides processes for communicating student learning, including report cards, progress reports, and cumulative records, while ensuring that all policies, rules, regulations, and contractual requirements are followed within areas of responsibility.The role includes directing the district's standardized testing program and ensuring that student achievement data is accurately reported to the Board of Education and staff. The Director supports educators in interpreting data and using it to inform instructional decisions. They also plan and implement district-wide professional development, ensuring that training programs build staff capacity and strengthen instructional practice. In addition, the Director provides support for student conferences, festivals, and districtwide events, and prepares reports required by the Board of Education or the Illinois State Board of Education.The position requires frequent walking and standing, with only infrequent lifting, pulling, or pushing. Work is performed in an environment free from unusual temperature, noise, or hazards. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, along with extensive preparation in educational administration is preferred.QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION Doctorate degree, from an accredited college or university preferred, plus extensive preparation in educational administration and curriculum/instruction. Must have an Illinois Teacher and Administrator License (PAL/Type 75 Administrator License) EXPERIENCE Minimum of eight years of successful experience in teaching, and five years of administrative experience in curriculum and instruction. Extensive experience in curriculum development and in the alignment of K-8 curriculum with standards and assessment. Extensive experience and knowledge in relation to instruction and instructional processes and in facilitating the delivery of effective instruction. Experience and knowledge in relation to systemic improvement processes and quality criteria. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: An administrative leadership style based on effective human relations and a continuous improvement model. Excellent communication, presentation, and listening skills. Compassion and enthusiasm for effective team leadership to motivate high standards and continuous improvement. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in curriculum and instruction Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate the integration and articulation of student academic experience through every level from pre-school to high school graduation. Thorough understanding of the Illinois Learning Standards Experience in developing meaningful assessments LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Type 75 Credential authorizing services as a Director of Teaching and Learning. Terms of Employment: Salary is based upon market comparisons as determined by the Superintendent. Twelve-month work year Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
