Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.We are looking for an intern to join us as Crew Systems Engineering Intern, Human FactorsKey ResponsibilitiesAs an Human Factors Engineering intern, you will work under the direction of our Crew Systems Lead, to support human-in-the-loop testing, wherein we would evaluate seat fit, workstation view and reach envelopes, display & controls UX, and other associated activities to support the US engineering office with tasks related to the Nyx Crew vehicle prototype testing, including:Create usability testing plans and conduct human-in-the-loop tests to evaluate crew cabin design effectivenessAnalyze user behavior and feedback to inform design decisionsApply ergonomic principles to optimize crew cabin design for suited and un-suited usePrototype and test new product ideas to improve usabilityDevelop and document user interface standards and guidelinesQualificationsApplicants should be enrolled students who are currently able to work 20-40 hours per week for a period of at least 10 weeks, beginning in June 2026.Strong candidates will have:Undergraduate or graduate studies in engineering, applied physics, computer science, or a related fieldStrong hands-on project experience through student teams, work projects, personal projects, or hobbiesFamiliarity with human factors test protocol development and executionExperience with anthropometrics, ergonomic assessments, human-computer interaction, and design of experimentsHands on test experienceIndependent, self-starter attitudeDue to federal regulations (e.g., ITAR/EAR), applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (e.g., current Green Card holders).Location: Houston, TX USWhy you should join us!What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is: We're Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mindWe're Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome themWe have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space.
