Work Schedule: 15-20 hours per week; shifts based on operational need of the organization. This position will be working on campus with the potential of performing some work hours remotely (from home) and also includes working during academic breaks. OVERVIEWEstablished in 1963, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff. ASI is a part of the Cal Poly Pomona Division of Student Affairs with a dashed reporting line to Administrative Affairs. ASI serves the entire campus population, including over 26,000 students, by providing opportunities for student engagement, student employment, and a multitude of programs and services such as recreation and wellness, student union and activities, student government, and childcare. ASI operational support areas include human resources, financial services, information technology, facilities management, and marketing. The Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC) Operations team is one of the largest departments in all of Campus Recreation. Operations consist of three teams that oversee equipment maintenance, pool operations, building and member safety and providing outstanding customer service to our members and guests. Operation's primary function is to keep the building open and operational but also plays a significant role in enhancing the facility through purchasing new equipment for members to use as well as improving the overall functionality of the building. Operations provides an excellent opportunity to be a part of a large community of fellow student employees as well as develop a strong network through day-to-day interactions with colleagues and members.POSITION DEFINITIONUnder general supervision from the BRIC Operations Manager, the Operations Assistant Supervisor oversees the daily operations in the BRIC and acts as the Assistant Supervisor for the Operations Staff. The Operations Assistant Supervisor performs routine and complex assignments requiring specialized knowledge, prior relevant experience, and moderate independent judgment and decision-making. Assist with the overall management of the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex' (BRIC) day-to-day operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIESAssist with the overall management of the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex' (BRIC) day-to-day operations and special event shiftsAssist with development, coordination, and management of operations attendant staff schedules Assist with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, developing, and coaching operations staffAssist with the management of multiple projects and assisting service area to meet required deadlinesAssist with development and implementation of operational strategiesEnforce rules and regulations regarding BRIC useProvide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical servicesPresent professional appearance and attitude always, and maintain a high standard of customer serviceBe familiar with all operations positions in the BRIC to fill in, if needed.Report and follow up on basic facility and equipment operational maintenancePrepare and maintain appropriate activity reportsAttend and assist in development and execution of orientations and trainingsPerform other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONSCurrent American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications (Employment offer contingent on obtaining certification within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI)Current American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) (Employment offer contingent on obtaining certification within 30 days of hire, training provided by ASI)Experience working in a fitness, recreation, or similar environmentAbility to react calmly and effectively in emergency situationsAbility to follow routine verbal and written instructionsAbility to effectively communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writingAbility to maintain professional work conductAbility to make independent decisions and make recommendationsAbility to adhere to work rules, follow directions, use time effectively and work productively without close supervisionDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population and campus communityAbility to operate a computer workstation using word processing, spreadsheet, and other computer applications Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)POSITION SENSITIVITYBased on the duties and responsibilities of this position, this position has been designated to be a sensitive position with access to sensitive data. EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY Employment with ASI is open to any Cal Poly Pomona student who is at least 16 years old and of legal status to work in the United States. In addition, the employee must be currently enrolled for at least 6.0 units (undergraduate) and 4.0 units (graduate), international student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the drop-add period, have a minimum 2.0 GPA (both Cal Poly Pomona and overall GPA) and be in good standing with the University. Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire. Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer and winter semesters and for students who have applied for graduation for the current semester. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and verbal communication; use of office equipment: telephones, calculator, copier and fax. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds.
