Grounds Trainee

Summary/ObjectiveThe Groundskeeper Trainee will work closely with Head Groundskeeper. Position requires minimal supervision and many times working alone. Assist in all aspects of grounds management that are included in scope of work.Essential FunctionsAssist the Head Groundskeeper as directed to:Operating heavy Equipment, such as mower, tractor, spray rig, heavy duty utility vehiclesMaintain bullpens to Major League Baseball StandardAssist in edging, painting, infield clay work, various turf management cultural practices. Assist in development and implementation plans for emergency response due to inclement weather i.e., hurricane, tornado, or other catastrophesField(s) set up and take down. Ensure that fields meet all criteria as set forth by Major League Baseball and Minnesota Twins rulesImplement the use of an environmentally sound pest management program that includes Integrated Pest ManagementMaintain impeccable records of all actions taken to manage identified pests/Abatement or applicationsEnsure performance of all work in a safe manner for the employee, subordinates, students and others that use the facilitiesAchieves both company and client's program integrity at high quality standardsOther duties as assigned by ownership and management and as opportunities ariseKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities1. Skilled in written (report writing) and oral communication (public speaking) 2. Ability to operate athletic field/grounds management related equipment3. Ability to work flexible and/or unscheduled hours4. High customer service and quality attitude5. Ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives6. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities7. Ability to maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment8. Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility and leadershipEducation and ExperienceMinimum of an Associate's degree in Agronomy/Horticulture related field or equivalent certificate. Two years' experience in managing high profile athletic fields preferred, but not required.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Days and hours will vary to include evening and weekend work according to business needs.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
