Advanced Automotive Technician (EV & Prototype Support)Location: Newark, CADuration: 2 to 3 month contract (extension possible based on customer demand)Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (flexibility to support weekends as needed)Compensation: $26 to 35/hourOpenings: 2 positionsPosition SummaryThe Advanced Automotive Technician is responsible for performing inspection, diagnostic, repair, and testing activities on automotive systems in support of engineering, development, and production teams. This role focuses on troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical issues, performing repairs to OEM standards, and supporting prototype and pre-production vehicle programs.This position supports the same customer program as the Test Driver team and requires the same motor vehicle record (MVR) standards. Technicians may work on production vehicles, prototype systems, and test benches in a manufacturing or engineering environment while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve vehicle performance, reliability, and serviceability.Candidates with electric vehicle (EV) experience are strongly preferred, though strong traditional automotive backgrounds will be considered.Key ResponsibilitiesVehicle Diagnostics & RepairPerform complex repairs and execute repair orders in accordance with OEM and company standardsDiagnose and repair vehicle systems including:EngineTransmissionElectrical systemsSteering and suspensionBrake systemsHVAC / air conditioningDetermine required repair activities and perform component replacementConduct inspections and testing of new or development vehicles and document findingsMaintain and repair vehicles and associated test bench systemsPrototype & Engineering SupportSupport prototype, pre-production, show, and production vehicle buildsFabricate or modify system and subsystem components alongside engineering teamsBuild and assemble prototype vehicles and testing equipmentApply critical thinking to troubleshoot issues beyond standard service proceduresElectrical & EV SystemsMaintain working knowledge of high-voltage and low-voltage EV systemsInterpret electrical schematics and assist with simple test board developmentUtilize diagnostic tools and analyze CAN communication systemsTesting & Data CollectionDrive vehicles to evaluate system functionality and overall vehicle healthCollect development data and document system behaviorFollow structured diagnostic and testing processesDocumentation & Process SupportDocument issues, repairs, and improvements using established systemsAssist in developing service manuals, maintenance procedures, and containment documentationCommunicate technical findings clearly to engineering teams and managementCollaboration & Team SupportWork effectively in a multidisciplinary team environmentExplain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders when necessaryMay lead small groups of technicians during specific tasksParticipate in ongoing technical trainingRequired QualificationsValid U.S. Driver's License with clean driving record (MVR required)Ability to pass background check and drug screeningMinimum 5 years of automotive repair experienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredAutomotive technician degree, certification, or equivalent hands-on experienceExperience using automotive diagnostic equipment and shop toolsStrong verbal and written communication skillsStrong technical and process-based problem-solving skillsComputer proficiencyAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentReliable attendance and punctualityMust provide a personal professional automotive toolboxPreferred / Advantageous QualificationsElectric vehicle (EV) experienceADAS diagnosis, repair, and calibrationKnowledge of CAN communication systemsFabrication or machining experience (welding, milling, lathe)Wire harness fabrication (soldering, crimping, splicing)OEM Master Technician, ASE Certification, or EPA 609 CertificationSenior technician or team lead experienceProfessional motorsports or race team experienceRequired Personal Tools & EquipmentTechnicians must provide most of the following professional-grade tools (not required to have every item, but should have the majority):Core Hand ToolsSocket set (1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drive - metric & SAE)Ratchets (3/8" and 1/2" minimum)Combination wrench set (metric & SAE; ratcheting preferred)Screwdriver set (Flathead, Phillips, Torx)Allen/Hex key set (metric & SAE)Pliers set: needle-nose, slip-joint, cutting, lockingTorque & Fastening ToolsTorque wrench (3/8" and 1/2" drive)Breaker barImpact wrench (cordless or air-powered, typically 1/2" drive)Diagnostic & Electrical ToolsOBD-II scanner (capable of reading codes and live data)MultimeterTest lightWire strippers and crimpersSpecialty Automotive ToolsSpark plug socket (5/8" or 13/16" with rubber insert)Oil filter wrench (various styles)Pry bar setHammer (ball-peen, dead-blow, or mallet)Shop EssentialsFlashlight or rechargeable LED work lightWork Environment & Physical RequirementsWork performed in manufacturing and development environments, including assembly linesExposure to temperature changes, noise, and outdoor conditionsAbility to lift up to 50 poundsMay work at heights up to 20-25 feetRegular standing, bending, and lifting during 8+ hour shiftsOccasional overtime, weekend work, or travel to company facilities or test locationsThis is an excellent opportunity to support cutting-edge EV development programs in a hands-on technical role, with potential for extension based on ongoing customer demand.EOE (including Disability/Veterans)#HRUSkilled
