Position: Community Education Adults with Disabilities Support Staff for Access ProjectLocation: Thompson Park Activity CenterSchedule: Varies. M-F evenings with occasional weekends. Up to 10 hrs per weekLine of Authority: Responsible to the supervising facilitatorPrimary Function: To assist participants in the Adult with Disabilities program.Wage: $23.21/hr, casual employeeQualifications:? Two or more years of post-secondary training in education or a related field (preferred)? Ability to work as a team member with staff and parents.? Ability to lift up to 50lbs. (and/or up-to adult-size body weight with two- to three-person lift)? Ability to tolerate frequent bending and lifting? Ability to work with behaviorally challenging adult participants, including those who may have aggressive tendencies.? Experience working with individuals with developmental and/or cognitive disabilities preferredJob Duties:? Assist in various classes for adults with disabilities, ranging from tours, crafting, baking, and movie nights to adaptive fitness and crafting.? Responsibilities include supporting participants in class by helping, repeating directions, socializing, and modeling.? Assist in helping participants locate the class and other amenities, such as the nearest bathroom and drinking fountain.? Work individually with a participant or in small groups to reinforce learning of skills introduced by the instructor or facilitator.? Develop relationships with participants.? Assist the instructor in devising strategies for reinforcing skills.? Foster communication with participants using a variety of strategies.? Other duties as assigned.
