Join a team that's naturally committed to the environment. Stantec is seeking an Archaeological Laboratory Manager with demonstrated experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. Primary responsibilities include processing, managing and analyzing archaeological assemblages recovered Phase I, II, and III excavations. The successful applicant will work closely with Principal Investigators to provide analysis and contributing to technical reports. Our cultural resources team provides Section 106/NEPA analyses, technical studies, and project permitting for a wide variety of private and federal, state, and local government clients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities related to the processing and analyzing of artifact assemblages recovered from a variety of field investigations - Maintaining lab equipment and lab cleanliness/organization - Provide supervision and technical direction to staff working in the laboratory. - Supervise activities of all laboratory personnel and assign, direct, and evaluate their work. - Maintain paperwork, notes, photographs, and laboratory equipment and ensure laboratory has proper supplies - Artifact photography when needed for professional technical reports - Ensuring analysis and reporting are completed with accuracy - Tracking special samples submitted for external analysis and ensuring results are provided to the Principal Investigator - Ensure that the laboratory setting is maintained according to state guidelines - Application of working knowledge of goals and strategies in archaeological assessments and Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations - Updating laboratory procedures consistent with current standards and curation guidelines - Keeping Principal Investigator apprised of progress and/or problems, as necessary - Contributor to archaeological assessment and Phase I, II, and III reports - Participate in Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work. - Demonstrated laboratory experience with Precontact and Historic period assemblages from the Mid-Atlantic region. - Knowledge of state regulations and guidance for field investigations and report writing in Mid-Atlantic region - Knowledge of state regulations and guidance for the curation of artifacts in the Mid-Atlantic region - Ability to implement and manage standard archaeological laboratory methods - Understanding of special laboratory techniques including preparing samples for submission to outside testing labs - Self-awareness of technical and/or professional abilities and the ability to determine when assistance from senior staff is needed. - Understanding of Section 106 of National Historic Preservation Act and applying NRHP eligibility criteria - Demonstrated team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative. - Excellent oral and written communications skills Education and Experience Required: - Bachelor's degree (or higher) in anthropology, archaeology, history, museum studies or closely related field - At least three (3) years of relevant work experience, one (1) of which was at a supervisory level. - Professional writing, problem solving, and communication skills. - to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
