JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Substitute Teacher REPORTS TO: Building Administrator or other identified administrator UNIT CLASSIFICATION: Renton Education AssociationPRIMARY PURPOSE The Substitute Teacher, in the absence of the regular classroom teacher, is responsible for helping students learn subject matter and/or skills required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION Implement the teacher's written lesson plans. Consult with site administration and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns. Teach scheduled classes. Prepare a written summary of work completed. Inform teacher and/or site administration of special situations or problems encountered. Maintain proper control and discipline both inside and outside the classroom in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, human relationships between individuals involved in the learning processes and in accordance with district policy and procedure. Maintain high standards and uphold the student conduct code. Properly report misconduct to site administration. Maintain supervisory control of students including but not limited to before and after school as well as classroom transitions. Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required. Comply with all building procedures and schedules of which you are made aware. Promote the proper use and care of school property. Uphold Board policies and follow administrative procedures. Cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve problems. Work cooperatively with site administration, staff, students, and families. Follow directives of site administration including but not limited to substituting in another classroom during a preparation period, performing administrative tasks and performing other related duties as assigned. Daily substitutes in long term assignments may be required to prepare lesson plans, grade student work and enter grades in the electronic grade book, meet with parents, attend staff and department meetings, and professional development sessions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or Substitute Certificate. Demonstrated ability to implement the ongoing instructional plan and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning in absence of the regular teacher. Cultural Competency; ability to effectively work with diverse populations. SALARY Certificated Substitutes Work Days Daily (7 hours) Half-Day (3.5 hours) Hourly Monday and Friday $275.59 $137.80 $39.37 RSD Retiree Monday and Friday $289.59 $144.80 $41.37 Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday $248.07 $124.04 $35.44 RSD Retiree Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday $262.42 $131.04 $37.44 20+ days in a continuous assignment Contract Rate (depending on education and years of experience) Non-Discrimination Policy
