Spanish Language Interpreter

Spanish Language Interpreter needed on a project-based, ongoing basis to work in the Manhattan office of a legal services organization. The Interpreter/Translator provides accurate and impartial Spanish-English language support for legal matters, including client interviews, hearings preparation, meetings, and written translations. This role ensures the accuracy, confidentiality, and proper formatting of all interpreted and translated materials, while supporting legal staff in both office and field settings such as detention facilities. Strong language proficiency, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment are essential.Responsibilities Provide consecutive Spanish-English interpretation for interviews, meetings, hearings preparation, and phone/video calls. Translate written materials between Spanish and English, including declarations, correspondence, intake forms, and case documents. Prepare and sign Certificates of Translation to affirm completeness and accuracy. Ensure all translations meet legal standards for accuracy and formatting. Attend offsite interpretation sessions, including jail or detention visits, and coordinate logistics with staff. Review case materials and maintain familiarity with immigration and legal terminology. Uphold strict confidentiality and adhere to interpreter ethics. Track assignments, hours, and completed tasks; provide brief, nonsubstantive summaries when requested. Complete required background checks for facility access.Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree (required). Fluency in Spanish (required); language proficiency testing recommended prior to submission. NY or NJ Court Interpreter Certification or relevant experience (preferred, not required). Strong organizational and computer skills (MS Office). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
