ORIENTATION/MOBILITY SPECIALIST SUMMARY: The position of Orientation and Mobility Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting orientation and mobility programs for visually impaired students ages 3 through 21. Direct service as well as consultation is provided to students, schools, staff and parents. The specialist works with other staff to integrate students into the regular classroom. The specialist travels to the student's assigned schools and/or homes to provide direction and/or consultative special education services relating to the vision loss. TEACHER SPECIAL EDUCATION VISION SUMMARY: A Special Education teacher works with students found eligible for special education services through the Highline Public School's Special education process of identification and evaluation. Eligible students access learning in their Least Restrictive Environment determined by their IEP (Individualized Education Plan) team. Instruction is provided by certificated teachers with Special Education degrees or endorsements. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Current Washington State Teacher's certificate with appropriate subject area endorsement(s). ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Criminal background clearance and all certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines (absent exemption) as required for this position by state and local authorities.
