Position Type: Student Support Services/Guidance CounselorDate Posted: 1/23/2026Location: PasadenaDate Available: Until FilledClosing Date: Until FilledJob Title: Social Emotional Learning (SEL) CoordinatorReports to: Principal/ Executive Director of AcademicsDepartment/School: RYSS at PasadenaExemption Status/Test: ExemptDate Revised: 7/3/2025Primary Purpose:The SEL Coordinator is a newly established role at RYSS, created to lead and support the district-wide implementation of social-emotional learning initiatives in the absence of certified counselors. This position is responsible for building staff capacity, aligning SEL efforts with district priorities, and ensuring SEL is embedded into daily classroom practices, school culture, and community partnerships.Key Responsibilities:Professional Development & Capacity BuildingDesign and deliver professional development for teachers, staff, and campus leaders on evidence-based SEL practices aligned with the CASEL framework.Provide coaching and support to educators on integrating SEL into instructional routines and classroom management.Strategic Planning & ImplementationLead the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of the district's SEL plan.Collaborate with district and campus leadership to align SEL goals with academic and behavioral priorities.Curriculum & Program CoordinationCoordinate SEL-related programs, curriculum, and resources across campuses (e.g., Lovescaping).Support student leadership, peer mentoring, and other student-led initiatives that promote SEL competencies.Data & Continuous ImprovementAnalyze school climate data (e.g., TEA climate surveys, discipline trends) to inform SEL strategies and measure impact.Use data to identify areas of need and adjust SEL programming accordingly.Collaboration & Community EngagementServe as a liaison between RYSS and external SEL partners, including Helping Hands and Baylor College of Medicine.Foster partnerships with community-based organizations to enhance SEL supports and services.Equity & Culturally Responsive PracticesModel and promote culturally responsive practices that affirm student identity and foster inclusive learning environments.Advocate for equitable access to SEL supports for all students, particularly those from historically underserved communities.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field (Master's preferred)SEL-related certifications or training preferred (e.g., CASEL-aligned programs, trauma-informed practices)Experience:Minimum of 3 years of experience in education, counseling, or youth developmentExperience designing and facilitating professional developmentExperience working with diverse student populations and community organizationsKnowledge/Skills:Deep understanding of SEL frameworks (e.g., CASEL), trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive pedagogyStrong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skillsAbility to analyze data and use it to inform decision-makingCollaborative mindset and ability to work across departments and campusesWorking Conditions:Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office and instructional technology; presentation toolsPhysical Demands:Occasional travel between campusesLight lifting and movement of materials for training sessionsEnvironment:Office and school campus settingsOccasional evening or weekend eventsMental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stressManage multiple priorities and deadlinesThis job description outlines the general responsibilities and expectations for the SEL Coordinator role at RYSS.
