Sr Scientist, Cell Biology (in South San Francisco)Job DescriptionProgrammable DNA, the software of Life, is finally here! Synthetic biologists will use our products to engineer how organisms produce cures to diseases, make everyday chemicals by using the atmosphere as the carbon source, enable plants to make their own fertilizers, and to create in-vivo diagnostics that alert us when we are sick, and many more applications.We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and outstanding Senior Scientist, Cell Biology, to join our antibody discovery efforts. This associate will play multiple roles within the Pharma group and will work within a team responsible for antibody discovery and characterization utilizing mammalian cell culture, HT FACS, and develop/execute HT functional cell based assays.What You'll Be DoingCharacterizing antibodies, VHHs or other binder formats in cell-based functional assays, including high-throughput formats of cytokine release assays, cell-based reporter assays, ligand binding studies, cAMP release, immunogenicity assays and MSD assays.Perform high-throughput flow cytometry and FACS cell binding assays with antibodies against transiently transfected cell lines and stably expressed cell lines.Establish target over-expressing cell lines for antibody discovery workUnderstand and assess immuno-oncology signal transduction pathways via in vitro cell-based assays.Strong background in cell culture and flow cytometry/FACS is requiredPlan, perform, analyze, and document laboratory experiments in support of antibody discoveryPresent your findings to both internal and external stakeholdersEvaluate and support the implementation of new technologiesMaintain laboratory instruments and logisticsWork collaboratively under aggressive timelines in a contract research settingWhat You'll Bring to the TeamMinimum of 2 years industry related work experience or relevant postdoc; with an educational background that includes a Ph.D. in cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, protein biochemistry, or related disciplineHave an understanding of antibody structure and functionYou are excited to learn new techniques and work collaboratively with othersYou thrive in a dynamic, quickly changing environment where we were work individually and on teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience with ELISA-based detection of cytokines and other soluble factors from cell supernatantExperience with molecular cloning to generate constructs to express proteins.Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environmentStrong organization skills and proficiency in computer skills including various databasesExcellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills a mustExperience in screening anti-GPCR antibodies in functional assays preferredExperience expressing antibodies in HEK293/CHO and purifying them using traditional methods preferredExcellent problem-solving capabilitiesExtraordinary attention to detail and planningProficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPointAbout Twist BioscienceTwist Bioscience synthesizes genes from scratch, known as "writing" DNA.
