Job Description: Position Title: Global Ambassador (GLAM)Department: MassArt International Education (MIE)Reports to: Director, MassArt International EducationNumber of Openings: 4Hours per week: Hours are flexible & project-based. GLAMs should plan on at least 1-2 hours per week, more around specific time periods and projects. Work schedule will be determined after the hiring process and based on students' schedules.Hourly Rate: $15 per hour up to $1,000 (or 70 hours) for the academic year yearLeadership experience complements the academic curriculum at MassArt and empowers students to become more confident, engaged artists, designers and citizens. Students have the opportunity to apply for various paid positions to be held during their sophomore through senior years.Student Leadership at MassArt is rooted in MassArt's Mission and Values and is essential to transforming MassArt's culture and community. All student leaders will be expected to uphold MassArt's missions and values as we work together to make MassArt a more equitable place to work, learn, live and make.About MassArt International EducationMassArt International Education Center (MIE) prepares the MassArt community to participate in the creative economy by supporting international experiences, encouraging intercultural connections, and promoting success in a diverse world. MIE is committed to creating a campus climate that recognizes and celebrates the value of global exchange. We encourage students to enhance their artistic perspective through a MassArt faculty-led travel course, a domestic or international exchange, or a third-party provider study abroad program. Students from over 30 countries make MassArt their home, and MassArt International Education provides support, assistance and guidance for international students to make the transition to life at MassArt.Position DescriptionThe Global Ambassador, under the direction of the Director of MIE and other MIE staff as assigned, will hold an integral job within the MIE, supporting the office and holistically supporting the mission of the MIE. The 4 Global Ambassadors collaborate to provide reliable, enthusiastic and professional support to the department. They help welcome and mentor new international students, run and participate in intercultural events throughout the academic year, and advocate for off-campus study to help prospective study abroad students get the most out of their upcoming experience.Duties & ExpectationsAttendance at regular GLAM meetings and prompt responses when contacted by MIE staffInternational Orientation (approximately 10 hours) Attend and provide leadership at all international orientation programs during Fall New Student Orientation and January New Student Orientation (*note: attendance at fall and spring in-person orientations is required; optional summer position to attend virtual sessions in July and August and connect with new, incoming students is available*) Student Outreach (approximately 10 hours) Connect with and serve as a resource for international students by actively promoting and attending MassArt/COF events, sharing resources, and promoting a welcoming environment throughout the academic yearEstablish a platform for incoming international and exchange students to communicate with each other during the semester prior to their enrollment Away Show (approximately 30 hours) In coordination with the other Global Ambassadors and following a detailed planning document, organize the Away Show during the Fall semester (the show takes place during International Education Week, typically the third week in November) Programming & Events (approximately 15 hours) Assist in the planning and promotion events such as the international student welcome table on move-in day, the COF international student dinner, immigration workshops, study abroad information sessions, fairs & tables, COF study abroad pre-departure orientations, Admitted Student Days, Spring Cultural Night, etc. Actively and enthusiastically attend events. Social Media (approximately 5 hours) Assist with and/or maintain the MIE's social media outlets, including Instagram, Discord, Facebook, etc. Develop and share an Instagram takeover of a personal cross-cultural experience (e.g. semester or summer abroad, a day in the life of an international student at MassArt, etc.) Skills AcquiredIt is anticipated that Global Ambassadors will acquire the following skills and abilities:Heightened intercultural sensitivity and awarenessIncreased cross-cultural communicationThe ability to present intercultural training to new students and peersThe ability to design and plan all aspects of meaningful programs and events, including: pre-event logistical planning, marketing and advertising, presentation and post-evaluationRequirements: Leadership ResponsibilitiesMust remain in good academic and judicial standingUphold and abide by the policies and procedures in the MassArt Student HandbookCheck MassArt email at least once per day during the academic year for messages pertaining to the Global Ambassador roleQualificationsExperience navigating cross-cultural situationsEmpathy and understanding of those going through or thinking about going through an experience that requires cultural adjustmentExcellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skillsOrganizational and experience with or willingness & enthusiasm to plan events Initiative, enthusiasm, and new ideas for the role of Global AmbassadorAdditional Information: Please note MassArt:Does not support employment-based visa sponsorship or non-student exchange visitor visa sponsorship.Is not an E-Verify institution.Selected candidates must be eligible to work in the US at the time of employment, complete all onboarding tasks including a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) background review and provide proof of eligibility to work in the US by completing the Form 19, Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.You are required to show proof of your identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of the start of your employment.
