Performs installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of water meters including remote reading devices. Performs daily tasks as assigned. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement with the United Steelworkers Union. Examples of DutiesEssential Functions of Work Performs installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of water meters including remote reading devicesMaintenance of pressure regulating valves; maintenance, repair, and installation of fire hydrantsMaintenance and repair of all aspects of the water distribution system from ¾" water services to 20" mainsMaintenance of sewer collection system (e.g., cleaning, televising, root cutting); maintenance of water meter and pressure regulating vaultsLandscaping, grading, and seeding of yard, pours and finishes concrete sidewalks and approachesTests water samplesOperates heavy equipment (e.g., trucks, tractors, backhoe, front-end loader, air compressor, jet truck, mowerUses shop and/or hand tools (e.g., hammer, drill, staple gun, saw) Performs water ditches and sewer lateral inspections. Takes final meter readings on residential/commercial sitesWalking and reading meters Handles delinquent accounts by making collections/distributing past due notices door-to-doorTerminates water service by shutting off water service to customersAssists the public by providing routine information and answering questionsResponds to customer complaints/need for service (e.g., high water bills, low water pressure, water taste, color, odor)Performs other related maintenance tasks and documents all work performedInstalls/maintains water/sewer inventory and software/GIS mapping software packagesMaintains water/sewer atlasesMust be available for on-call or call in after normal business hoursPerforms other related duties as assigned Typical QualificationsMinimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or GED or equivalentTwo (2) years of Construction, Utility, Maintenance, Repair and/or Inspection experienceLicensure or Certification RequirementsValid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment. The City will provide training.Possession of Class 1 Water Distribution Certification at the time of application or ability to obtain within 18 months of employment and/or Class 1 Collection Certification. The City will provide training.
