Position: Enterprise Risk Director Department: Risk & Compliance Location: Wichita, KS (On-Site) Job Type: Full-Time /Salary Jump start your career at Equity Bank! The Director of Enterprise Risk is responsible for assisting the Chief Risk Officer in the creation, maintenance and ownership of the bank's enterprise-wide risk management program, ensuring that risks are identified, assessed, monitored, and effectively mitigated across all lines of business. This role provides strategic direction, oversight, and leadership in implementing the bank's risk management framework, policies, and governance processes to safeguard the bank's assets, reputation, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities and Expectations Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance * Lead the development and execution of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework aligned with the bank's strategic objectives and risk appetite. * Partner with the CRO to integrate risk considerations into strategic decision-making. * Prepare and potentially deliver high-level presentations to the Board of Directors and Risk Committees, demonstrating the ability to communicate complex risk topics to non-technical stakeholders. * Champion the integration of advanced technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, and data analytics) into the bank's risk management framework to drive proactive risk identification and mitigation. * Lead digital transformation initiatives within the risk function, ensuring the adoption of innovative tools and platforms that enhance risk visibility, reporting, and decision-making. Risk Identification & Assessment * Oversee enterprise-wide risk identification * Facilitate regular risk assessments to evaluate the bank's exposure and resilience. * Monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) and trends to proactively manage risk. * Oversee the implementation of technology-driven risk assessment tools, including predictive analytics and real-time monitoring systems, to identify emerging risks and trends. * Foster a culture of continuous improvement by evaluating and piloting new technologies that can strengthen the bank's risk posture. Policy & Framework Management * Maintain and update risk management policies, procedures, and risk appetite statements. * Ensure consistent application of risk methodologies across business lines and support the development of business-unit risk registers. * Assist in maturing the ERM Framework to meet Heightened Standards. * Ensure risk management policies and procedures reflect the latest advancements in technology and industry best practices. * Collaborate with IT and data teams to ensure robust data governance, cybersecurity, and privacy controls are embedded in all risk management processes. Collaboration & Oversight * Work closely with business line leaders to promote a strong risk culture and adherence to policy. * Provide risk guidance and consultation for new products, initiatives, and strategic projects. * Act as a key 'Second Line of Defense' leader, providing independent challenge to 'First Line' business units while ensuring clear accountability and ownership of risks. * Partner with business lines to identify opportunities for automation and digital solutions that streamline risk processes and improve efficiency. * Serve as a thought leader on innovation in risk management, representing the bank in industry forums and with external partners on technology trends and best practices. Reporting & Communication * Develop and deliver comprehensive risk reports * Ensure timely escalation and remediation of material risk events or findings. * Serve as a key point of contact for regulators and external auditors regarding risk management matters. * Develop and deliver technology-enabled risk dashboards and visualizations for executive leadership and the Board, ensuring complex risk data is accessible and actionable. * Promote the use of digital communication channels and platforms for timely escalation and resolution of risk events. Facilitates cross-functional teamwork to address enterprise-wide risk challenges and drive digital transformation. * Change Leadership: Ability to take responsibility and drive high quality execution of efforts, as well as internal initiatives. Demonstrates resilience and adaptability in a dynamic regulatory and technological landscape. * Ethical Stewardship: Models the highest standards of integrity, ethics, and confidentiality. Ensures risk management practices align with the bank's values and regulatory expectations. * Talent Development: Mentors and develops risk management talent, with a focus on building digital and analytical capabilities within the team. Interest in identifying and developing junior resources to support initiatives. Required Skills & Education Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field required * 8+ years of progressive experience in risk management within banking or financial services, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. A portion of those 8 years must be in large bank ($10B +) environments. * Knowledge of bank products, processes, and market practices utilized by large banks. * Strong collaborative and organizational skills to with ability to partner across functional teams. * Excellent analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. * Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in operational processes. * Ability to demonstrate a high level of ethical behavior and follow the Code of Conduct, including maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. * Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changes in the work environment. * Strong organizational and prioritizing skills, including the ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously. * Excellent computer skills, understanding of artificial intelligence and the ability to work on various platforms. * Demonstrated experience in leveraging technology and data analytics within risk management functions. * Strong understanding of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, RPA, cloud computing) and their application in banking risk management. * Proven ability to lead technology-driven change initiatives and foster a culture of innovation.
