This role supports the launch and growth of a new 10 p.m. accountability news program focused on investigative reporting, community issues, and public/government systems. The position requires deep investigative journalism experience and the ability to build and lead a team focused on accountability, explanatory, and solutions journalism that serves Houston Strivers. RESPONSIBILITIES Investigative & Content LeadershipLead editorial decisions on story selection, investigative priorities, and storytelling approaches for the 10PM newscastCreate systems and workflows to manage a team of reporters and photographers to hit deadlines and maintain high standardsDevelop and oversee investigative projects that expose systemic failures, demand accountability, and elevate solutionsManage the investigative reporting team, ensuring stories meet journalistic standards and differentiate from traditional news approachesCoach reporters on investigative techniques, source development, and accountability journalismIdentify enterprise opportunities that set this program apart from competitorsStory Development & Quality ControlWork closely with Executive Producer and Manager of Content and Coverage (MCC) on show development, content, and digital strategiesReview and improve scripts, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with the program's accountability missionGuide reporters on transforming complex issues into accessible, impact-focused storiesDevelop investigative segments including accountability stories, follow-up reporting on results, explainers, and public spending investigationsEnsure all content answers: "Why should viewers care?" and "What's the accountability angle?"Maintain balance between investigation and solutions in show contentTeam Development & CollaborationCoach investigative reporters on enterprise development, sourcing, and storytelling excellenceFoster collaboration between reporters and the production teamPartner with Executive Producer to ensure content and presentation work seamlesslyWork with MCC on long-term content strategy and team developmentMaintain regular 1-on-1s with direct reports focused on professional growthSupport the development of new program elements and audience engagement strategies KEY QUALIFICATIONS ExperienceMinimum 7-10 years of television journalism experienceMinimum 5 years of investigative or special projects reporting experienceProven track record of breaking investigative stories with measurable impactExperience with digital storytelling, accountability journalism, public records requests, and data journalismPrevious leadership or mentoring experience preferredExperience launching new programming or content initiatives a plusSkillsExpert-level understanding of journalistic ethics, sourcing standards, and legal considerationsStrong editorial judgment and decision-making under deadline pressureAbility to identify systemic issues and develop investigative story anglesExcellent coaching and feedback skillsMulti-platform storytelling expertise (broadcast, digital, streaming, social)Strong organizational and project management abilitiesCollaborative mindset with clear communication skillsKnowledgeDeep understanding of Houston communities, systems, and power structuresFamiliarity with FOIA/public records processesKnowledge of legal and ethical considerations in investigative journalismUnderstanding of solutions journalism principles Location: KPRC 28181 Southwest Freeway, Houston, Texas 77074To apply: Please submit your updated resume and application to:Sonia Dasgupta at sdasgupta@ Click HERE to download and complete employment application.
