Shaffer is seeking a hands-on, collaborative Controller to lead our accounting function with a strong focus on general ledger accuracy and completeness. This is a player/coach role-ideal for a leader who not only understands the work but is energized by rolling up their sleeves, improving processes, and developing a high-performing team.The right candidate brings both technical accounting expertise and a passion for coaching others, while continuously looking for ways to improve efficiency through technology and smarter processes. As an employee-owned company, we value ownership, accountability, and teamwork.What You'll DoLead, Coach, and Develop the TeamLead, manage, and develop the accounting team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and customer-focused cultureOwn the Close & General Ledger IntegrityManage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the general ledgerOversee daily accounting operations, including AP, AR, banking, and journal entriesDrive Process Improvement & EfficiencyIdentify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve systemsLeverage technology to increase efficiency and reduce manual workEnsure Compliance & Support AuditsOversee sales, use, and property tax compliance, licenses, and filingsSupport annual audit/review processes and provide necessary documentationPartner with Finance & LeadershipProvide financial insights and analysis to leadershipSupport budgeting and forecasting effortsWhat You Bring5+ years of progressive accounting experience5+ years of people management experienceBachelor's degree in Accounting (required); CPA preferredStrong background in general ledger accounting and close processesExperience with sales and use tax complianceExposure to public accounting/audit strongly preferredExperience in a small or family-owned business environment is a plusDemonstrated ability to be both strategic and hands-onCollaborative & customer centric approachBenefitsEmployee ownership (earn shares annually)Competitive pay401(k) with company matchMedical, dental, vision, life & disability insurancePaid vacation and holidaysCompany provided cell phone and use of company vehicle for work purposes onlyShaffer is an equal opportunity employer.
