Job#: 3024104 Job Description: Title: Materials Engineer Location: Seattle, WA 98109 Type: Long Term Contract Benefits: Holiday Pay, PTO, Sick Leave, Medical Insurance, Weekly Pay on W2 and 401K We are looking for a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Materials Analysis Engineer to support the systematic analysis of a wide range of consumer products, electronic devices, and hardware systems. Your work will directly advance our understanding of material composition and properties, contributing to our circular economy goals and long-term sustainability strategy. The ideal candidate brings a natural curiosity, and hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation. To be successful in this role, you will thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment, demonstrate precision in handling complex data collection, and bring a systematic approach to materials investigation that drives actionable insights. Key Responsibilities: Perform careful disassembly and analysis of a diverse range of consumer products, electronic devices, and hardware systems following strict safety protocols * Conduct materials composition analysis using a range of material identification and characterization techniques * Document and maintain detailed, organized records of material analysis procedures and findings * Contribute to laboratory capability development and process improvements * Collaborate cross-functionally to advance sustainable materials research goals BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's or Masters degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; candidates with an Associate's degree and significant hands-on laboratory experience are encouraged to apply * 2+ years of hands-on experience in materials analysis and experience with analytical instruments (spectroscopy, microscopy) * Demonstrated ability to maintain precision and consistency across high-volume, routine analytical workflows * Strong attention to detail and organization in addition to a systematic approach to work * Demonstrated experience with laboratory safety protocols and procedures * Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully across diverse teams and seniority levels PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Hands-on experience with the following analytical systems: general spectroscopy and microscopy, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS * Experience with electronics or PCB's is highly preferred but not a must have * Experience with robotics systems * Knowledge of hardware systems and electronics * Previous experience in an R&D environment * Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods Apex Systems is a world-class IT services company that serves thousands of clients across the globe.
