Staff AccountantLocation: On-sitePosition SummaryWe are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with 2-3+ years of experience to support financial operations for a solid waste services organization. This role is responsible for daily accounting functions, accurate financial reporting, and supporting operational teams including dispatch, maintenance, and leadership. Experience with Costpoint is a plus but not required. Key Responsibilities:General Ledger & Financial ReportingPrepare and post journal entries for hauling, fuel, disposal, and maintenance activityReconcile general ledger accounts including fuel inventory, tipping fees, rebates, and depreciationAssist with month-end and year-end closeSupport financial statement preparation and internal reportingAccounts PayableProcess vendor invoices for equipment repairs, fuel, landfill charges, subcontractors, and suppliesValidate charges against contracts, scale tickets, and service logsMaintain vendor files and ensure timely paymentsResolve discrepancies with internal departments and external vendorsProcess credits, adjustments, and reconciliationsOperational Cost TrackingTrack and analyze key cost drivers (fuel, maintenance, disposal, labor, tires)Maintain fleet asset schedules, depreciation records, and capital expenditure trackingSupport budgeting and forecasting for contracts, equipment, and facility operationsCompliance & AuditMaintain required financial documentation for auditsEnsure adherence to company policies and regulatory requirementsSupport reporting needs for recycling, diversion, and sustainability programsManage filings for disposal sites and required local/state permitsCross-Department CollaborationWork closely with operations to reconcile cost variancesCoordinate with maintenance on repair orders, parts usage, and fleet cost allocationsAssist leadership with financial analysis, pricing support, and operational improvements QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field2-3+ years of accounting experience (industry experience preferred)Strong knowledge of GAAPExperience with Costpoint or similar accounting software (preferred, not required)Ability to analyze operational data (scale tickets, route sheets, fuel logs)Experience with cloud-based fleet or work order systems (Samsara, Fleetio, Routeware, etc.)Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis)Excellent attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environmentAbility to pass a credit check Pay: $65,000-$83,000 per year All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, national origin, age, ancestry, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, or military or veteran status.
