Assistant Production Manager

Job DescriptionPosition OverviewThe Assistant Production Manager works under the supervision of the Production Manager and supports the technical operations for performances in dance, music, theatre, lectures, and visual art exhibits, as well as front-of-house needs. This position collaborates closely with the Butler Arts & Events Center Operations Manager and provides operational and technical support across multiple performance venues.Responsibilities include managing events in the Schrott Center for the Arts, Shelton Auditorium, and Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall; overseeing maintenance of performance spaces and equipment; developing and maintaining training and production documentation; and supervising the training and scheduling of student workers.Key ResponsibilitiesSet up, operate, and maintain all theatrical equipment including sound reinforcement, audio recording, video capture, video projection, lighting and scenic automation equipment, orchestra shell, dance floor, scenery, and propsManage events in the Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall: oversee maintenance of the hall; create and maintain training manuals, technical packets, and production procedure policies; oversee the training and scheduling of student workersSupervise crews and performers to maintain a safe performance and workspaceSchedule student crews for Jordan College spaces of the Butler Arts CenterTrain and supervise student and IATSE stage crews (load-in, running, and strike)Provide leadership and technical support and supervision to students and faculty for classes using the Schrott CenterDevelop and implement maintenance and repair or replacement schedules for sound, lighting, and theatrical equipmentPerform other duties as assigned Required QualificationsBachelor's degree3-5 years of experience in technical theatreExperience with live sound reinforcement and multi-track audio recording on analog and digital consolesExperience with theatrical lighting systems, including hanging, focusing, plotting, and programming, and familiarity with DMX systemsWorking knowledge of all aspects of theatre production, including lighting, audio, video, recording, stage management, scenery, and multimedia operationsProficiency with entertainment and production software, including Vectorworks, ProTools, Wavelab, QLab, and Adobe Creative SuiteStrong technical aptitude, including experience using hand and power toolsAbility to train, supervise, and manage student crewsAbility to monitor work conditions and ensure compliance with operating and safety regulationsStrong organizational skills, with the ability to schedule and balance the needs of multiple events and crews while maintaining quality serviceAbility to read lighting and scenic plots and translate designs into practical implementationKnowledge of standard production practices and procedures for lectures, concerts, theatre, and dance performancesExperience working with a community-based organizationValid driver's licenseFirst Aid and CPR/AED certification (American Red Cross or equivalent)Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekendsAbility to work at heightsAbility to lift up to 70 poundsPreferred Qualifications Experience with Pro ToolsExperience operating digital audio consolesExperience with ETC lighting consolesBU Benefits and Perks Please check out Butler's Total Rewards website to learn more about our benefit offerings, which include: Paid Time Off and Holidays: 20 days of paid time off (vacation and PTO days) per Fiscal year 6 Paid Holidays In addition, a paid Winter Break between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day Paid Parental Leave (after 1 year of full-time employment) Health: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans including disability and life insurance programs Retirement: 10% employer contribution after 1 year of full-time employment Tuition Assistance: Tuition Exchange Program for Dependents Remission of tuition for classes taken at Butler for employees, spouses, and dependent children.
