Role SummaryThe Senior Director of Enterprise Risk and Compliance will provide strategic leadership across enterprise risk, global safety and security, compliance, and insurance. This high-impact, hands-on role will immediately support organizational transformation while building the foundation for a long-term Enterprise Risk Management framework.The role spans global operations and supports cross-functional leaders, country offices, and senior executives. It is ideal for a senior risk leader who excels in ambiguous environments, works autonomously, and brings strong strategic, operational, and interpersonal capabilities. Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Risk Management and Governance Lead and formalize the enterprise risk framework and strengthen risk governance Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments, scenario analyses, and stress testing Maintain the enterprise risk register and define appetite, tolerance, and mitigation strategies Deliver risk reports and dashboards to executive leadership and Board committees Serve as primary liaison to the Audit and Risk Committee on enterprise risk mattersInsurance and Risk Financing Oversee the global insurance portfolio across liability, D and O, workers compensation, property, travel, medical, evacuation, and fleet Manage brokers, underwriters, advisors, renewals, and negotiations Ensure alignment between insurance strategy, duty of care, and ERM insightsGlobal Safety, Security, and Duty of Care Provide leadership across global safety and security practices, including high-risk contexts Lead crisis management activities and escalation processes Oversee fleet and road safety strategy including training, data tracking, and continuous improvementCompliance and External Risk Lead compliance frameworks related to sanctions, anti-terror financing, bribery and corruption, whistleblower standards, and U.S. regulatory obligations Evaluate political, regulatory, and donor-related risks Develop mitigation strategies and partner with Legal, Audit, Finance, and OperationsKey Priorities in the First Three Months Formalize the ERM framework and prepare materials for the Audit and Risk Committee Establish a fleet safety program and partner with supply chain and logistics Strengthen safety and security structures during organizational restructuring Lead the insurance renewal cycle with internal and external partnersKey Requirements Deep enterprise risk management experience at a global scale Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate at Board and committee levels Ability to operate independently and deliver under tight timelines Experience within NGOs, INGOs, or international development environments strongly preferred Strong collaboration skills working across diverse global teams Ability to navigate high ambiguity during organizational changePreferred Skills Experience preparing senior leadership or Board-level materials Exposure to private sector risk or compliance environments Background working with country offices across multiple regions Strategic thinking with the ability to build long-term risk capabilities Ability to lead teams if converted to permanent employmentWhy This Opportunity Opportunity to build Enterprise Risk Management from the ground up High visibility with executive leadership and governance bodies Immediate impact supporting organizational transformation Mission-driven organization with global reach Collaborative and supportive team culture Potential for full-time conversion if funding stabilizesCall to ActionIf you are an experienced global risk leader ready to build foundational frameworks, influence senior decision makers, and deliver meaningful organizational impact, apply today through The Intersect Group with your resume and best contact information.
