The Workers' Compensation Claims Specialist manages the end-to-end process for workers' compensation claims, ensuring timely, accurate handling and a positive experience for employees. This role investigates incidents, collaborates with internal teams and external partners.Reporting to the Senior Safety & Disability Manager, the specialist provides essential support on complex cases and compliance matters while contributing to a stronger, safer workplace.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesServes as primary contact for the field operations on WC related claim procedures and claims management issuesMay serve as a back-up for FMLA, ADA, and disability related claim procedures and claims management issuesAssists with updating documentation and communication associated with related leaves of absencesTrains new plant HR/safety personnel, including acquisitions, on related leave of absence proceduresProduces quarterly trend reports and other related reports as requestedAssists with monitoring federal and state leave regulations and with working with vendors and plants to implement any necessary updates to existing proceduresMonitors claim activity to ensure timely and accurate delivery of benefitsProvides assistance to the field regarding medical management and return to workReviews claim data to ensure that claims are managed, paid, and resolved according to service criteriaEnsures that all claims are reviewed for appropriateness of acceptance or denialAdvises the field in identifying and maintaining quality medical providersAssists in the identification of legal counsel with assistance from the claim managers/TPAAssists in developing legal strategy for each litigated caseAdvises the field in transitional and long-term return-to-work strategiesEnsures that the claim managers/TPA pay medical bills and other related invoices promptlyProvides guidance and related training to plant personnel with work comp responsibilitiesHelps maintain documentation, legal evidence, and other related file administrationMaintains updated knowledge of state comp laws or other legal changes impacting areas of responsibilityAdvises the field and claim managers/TPA in investigating aspects of serious or questionable claimsActs as a liaison between injured worker and TPA/carrierPrepares and participates in strategic claim resolution meetingsAssists with providing information to TPA/legal counsel in response to subpoena requestsMay assist with training for other related areas of responsibilityMay assist with policy updates for related areas of responsibilityMay serve as backup for Substance Abuse policy administrationMay serve as backup for other various safety related program administrationPerforms other duties as required.Job SpecificationsKnowledgeBachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related fieldFormal, working knowledge of claims management protocol and related employment law or equivalent experienceSome knowledge and understanding of medical terminologySkills and abilitiesAbility to solve problems and apply knowledge and education in complex situationsAbility to maintain and safeguard confidential informationVerbal and written skills with the ability to communicate at all levels within the organizationInterpersonal and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated ability to use computers and related business software and experience with advanced excel or other report writing programsAbility to understand, analyze, and communicate financial information as a management toolAbility to coordinate and prioritize case loadAbility to travel as requiredConductTeam player and goal orientedLeads by exampleThe Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
