Gas Storage EngineerThe Gas Storage Engineer is responsible for supporting field and well operations for underground natural gas storage assets, including salt caverns and depleted reservoirs. This role provides technical expertise in well integrity, risk management, and regulatory compliance, while driving continuous improvement in storage operations and systems.This position reports to the Manager of Gas Storage Engineering.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and execute operating and maintenance activities for assigned gas storage assets in accordance with company procedures and applicable API 1170/1171 standardsCollaborate with subject matter experts and cross-functional stakeholders to meet deliverability, injectivity, and reliability targetsIdentify, evaluate, document, and mitigate well integrity threatsPerform risk assessments, including threat evaluation, risk ranking, and long-term integrity planningProvide technical support to internal teams, including Field Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Gas Control, Corrosion, and Regulatory groupsSupport regulatory interactions with PHMSA and state agencies as neededMaintain and continuously improve data systems and applications, including:Gas Storage DatabaseWell Risk MatrixLogging SchedulesWell FilesAdditional InformationPosition level and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or Geological SciencesMinimum of 5 years of experience in underground natural gas storage or regulated gas industry, including work with depleted reservoirs and salt cavernsStrong knowledge of reservoir engineering principles, including material balance, performance monitoring, and forecastingAbility to analyze reservoir performance, identify issues, and implement effective solutionsWorking knowledge of well operations, including wellbore and wellhead design and downhole operationsFamiliarity with well logging techniques and interpretationAbility to manage multiple projects and programs within budget constraintsStrong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines while adhering to company policies and proceduresProven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, regulators, and external stakeholdersCommitment to safety and active participation in safety programsValid driver's license with an acceptable driving recordWillingness to comply with PHMSA drug testing requirementsWork EnvironmentThis role follows a hybrid schedule, with work-from-home on Thursday and Friday, and in-office work on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at our downtown Houston, Texas location.Up to 10% travel may be requiredOccasional after-hours support may be necessaryRequires extended periods of computer-based workMust be available to carry a company-issued phone and laptop and respond as neededPreferred QualificationsKnowledge of underground natural gas storage standards, practices, and proceduresFamiliarity with API RP 1170 and 1171Understanding of well integrity risks in depleted reservoirs and salt cavern storageKnowledge of failure pressure and safe operating pressure calculations for well componentsStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management toolsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to organize, interpret, and apply complex technical data
