R&D Automation (Robotics) Engineer This role requires direct experience with robotic system integration and full‑cycle automation development. Candidates focused solely on maintenance, panel wiring, or operator‑level support will not be a fit. Position Summary We are seeking a R&D Automation Engineer to provide hands‑on technical leadership in the design, development, integration, and testing of automated and robotic systems. This role supports engineering and R&D teams through the full lifecycle of automation projects, from initial concept and system architecture through build, programming, testing, and deployment. This position is ideal for an engineer with strong electrical and controls fundamentals who has direct experience integrating robotics into automated machinery and is comfortable working independently to solve complex technical challenges. Key Responsibilities + Design, build, and implement electrical and control systems for automated equipment, including full PLC‑based control systems and robotic integration. + Lead full‑cycle robotic development, including system architecture, programming, integration, testing, and optimization. + Program PLCs using Relay Ladder Logic and develop associated HMI interfaces. + Perform robotic and machine integration, including sensors, motion systems, vision components, and safety devices. + Conduct safety evaluations of system designs and implement electrical and functional safety features. + Develop and execute testing protocols to validate system performance under real‑world operating conditions. + Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to sensors, control panels, PLC communication, robotics, and electrical systems. + Interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, procedures, and test configurations to support development efforts. + Create and maintain technical documentation, including electrical schematics, PLC code, specifications, work instructions, and maintenance documentation. + Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems within automated machinery. + Support continuous improvement initiatives related to automation performance, reliability, and standardization. Required QualificationsEducation & Experience + Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related technical field preferred. + Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience in controls engineering, automation, or robotic system development. + Equivalent combinations of education and practical experience will be considered. Technical Skills + Proven experience with robotic system integration and machine design programming. + Strong background in PLC programming and control system development. + Experience using diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, waveform generators, and programmable power supplies. + Familiarity with automation platforms such as Direct Logic, Do‑more, and C‑more is preferred. + Exposure to machine vision systems is a plus. + Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools, platforms, and testing equipment. Core Competencies + Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions. + Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to engineering challenges. + High level of technical ownership and accountability. + Comfortable working independently and driving projects through completion. Communication & Documentation + Proficient in reading and interpreting complex technical and business documentation, including procedures, policies, schematics, and specifications. + Strong written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external partners. + Capable of producing clear, detailed technical documentation. Physical Requirements + Frequent use of hands and arms for equipment setup and troubleshooting. + Adequate depth perception, hearing, speech, and color vision. + Ability to lift up to 30 pounds to a height of 3 feet, up to twice per day. Work Environment + Primarily indoor work environment with stable temperatures and moderate noise levels. + Hands‑on engineering and development setting. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Fallbrook, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $95000.00/yr. 8 holidays. good benefits: 401k match 50% of first 6%, HMO and PPO options. 10 x 4 schedule.
