This role is both strategic and hands-on, supporting leadership with clean reporting, strong controls, and insights that drive better decisions.You will be responsible for financial close, multi-state sales & use tax compliance, budgeting vs. actuals, and building scalable accounting processes for a high-growth marketplace.Key Responsibilities:Accounting & Financial OperationsOwn the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processEnsure GAAP-compliant financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)Oversee revenue recognition for a marketplace business modelManage accruals, prepaid expenses, and expense classificationMaintain strong internal controls and accounting policiesBudgeting, Forecasting & ReportingLead Budget vs. Actual reporting and variance analysisPartner with leadership on forecasting and cash-flow planningPrepare management reporting for executives and board meetingsSupport investor and lender reporting as neededMulti-State Sales & Use TaxOwn multi-state sales tax and use tax complianceCoordinate nexus determinations, filings, and remittancesManage sales-tax exemptions and documentationWork with external advisors and tax software providers as neededAP / AR / Marketplace ComplexityOversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processesManage supplier payouts, accruals, and reconciliation timingEnsure accurate treatment of marketplace COGS vs. gross revenueMonitor aging schedules and support collections strategySystems, Process & ScaleOwn accounting systems (e.g., Xero)Improve close timelines, automation, and documentationPartner cross-functionally with Ops, Sales, and ProductSupport audits, tax filings, and future system upgradesRequirementsRequired5-10+ years of accounting experience, including Controller or Senior Accounting Manager rolesStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAPHands-on experience with multi-state sales tax / use taxExperience with Budget vs. Actuals and variance analysisStrong understanding of accrual accountingExperience in high-growth, multi-entity, or multi-state environmentsPreferredExperience in a marketplace, SaaS, fintech, or transactional platformCPA or CPA-eligibleExperience supporting fundraising, audits, or lender reportingFamiliarity with construction, logistics, or services-based businessesWhat Success Looks LikeTimely month-end closeClear visibility into margin, cash flow, and operating performanceSales tax compliance across all operating statesScalable accounting processes that grow with the businessRole-Specific PerksBe a key finance leader at a fast-growing marketplaceHigh ownership and influence on how the company scalesPartner closely with executive leadershipBuild systems and processes from the ground upCompetitive compensation and meaningful equity opportunity
