Position Type: Transportation/SpecialistDate Posted: 11/5/2025Location: TransportationDate Available: ASAPClosing Date: Until Filled Position / Title: Transportation Communication Specialist Bargaining Unit: NON-UNION Department/Location: Transportation Department Calendar Days: 192 Reports To: Transportation Director/Assistant Director JD Revision Date: 10/06/2025 Supervises: N/A Function / Position Summary The Transportation Communication Specialist serves as a liaison between the Transportation Department and district families to ensure clear, timely, and supportive communication regarding transportation services. This role promotes safe and reliable student transportation by addressing family inquiries, resolving issues, and facilitating collaboration between schools, routing staff, and bus drivers. The position supports District Strategic Plan Goal #2 (Safety, Sense of Belonging, and Inclusion) and Goal #3 (Academic Growth and Mastery) by ensuring students have consistent, equitable access to school and by fostering positive relationships with families and the community. Job Duties / Responsibilities Serve as a communication link between the Transportation Department, schools, and families regarding bus routes, schedules, delays, and policies. Assist families in understanding transportation procedures and address concerns in a timely, professional manner. Coordinate with schools, drivers, dispatchers, and routing staff to resolve transportation issues and communicate updates. Provide interpretation and translation services as needed to support multilingual families. Maintain accurate records of communication, ridership, and transportation data. Support office operations, including answering calls, routing messages, and maintaining documentation. Participate in department meetings, safety drills, training, and initiatives that enhance customer service and family engagement. Perform other duties as assigned. Education High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework or certification in communication, administration, or a related field preferred. Experience / Knowledge Prior administrative, clerical, or customer service experience preferred. Experience working with families, staff, and community members in a supportive role preferred. Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or other high-incidence language and English) required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Physical Demands Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires extended periods of sitting and computer use. May involve moderate noise levels (e.g., office equipment, dispatch systems). Occasional travel to school sites, bus depots, or community locations may be required. Terms of Employment Ten-month position with salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education. Work hours may occasionally extend beyond the regular day to support evening meetings, family events, or urgent transportation issues.
