Job Description

A Full-Time Summer Intern is responsible for the direct care, ABA therapy of students in the classroom and/or residence. This includes knowledge and implementation of students' clinical, educational, vocational, and daily living objectives.Responsibilities:Educational/ClinicalThorough knowledge and competent implementation of all student educational programs and behavior management guidelines.Ensure all students' safety and implement all safety proceduresRecord and compile all necessary behavioral and educational data accurately and in a timely fashionDemonstrate principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)Collaborate with various departments (Speech and Language, Adapted Physical Education, Occupational Therapy, Vocational, Academic, etc.) and participate in running established programs for all students in these domainsTraining and Professional DevelopmentSuccessful completion of NECC trainings associated with initial employment and ongoing refreshersSuccessful completion of CALM Verbal and CALM Physical deescalation trainingsTeamActive and regular attendance at all team meetingsPunctual and competent completion of all team assignmentsSuccessful use of the NECC team communication system, both as sender and receiver of information If applicable, assist with residential duties/chores including laundry, cleaning, dishes, cooking, etc. in conjunction with students' ADLs and to ensure general maintenance of residential homesPhysicalThe physical requirements here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of all direct care teaching and overnight positions.Protective holds, movements, and carriesBlocking and redirecting student movements against the student's weight (40-250 pounds)Physical interventions in response to aggressive and self-injurious behaviorAbility to move quickly and confidently to intervene in situations when protective holds and/or movements are deemed necessaryAbility to pursue a bolting studentSuccessful completion of CALM training (non-violent self-defense)GeneralAll teaching positions at NECC include but are not limited to:Driving between the school and residence, and to other school-related trips and appointmentsThe operation of household appliances and school equipmentImplementation of all safety and emergency proceduresSkills & Qualifications:Active enrollment in a college or university in pursuit of a Bachelor's degreeExperience working with special needs populations, preferredValid driver's licenseNECC is committed to an inclusive culture where all students, employees, families, and partners feel welcome, safe, and valued.We believe that fostering diversity and equity makes us a stronger, more successful community.
