Job DescriptionPosition Description:This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs to university systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC support, carpentry, and painting. Pay for this position is $23.00 per hour. Monday through Friday, 8 am - 4 pm.Major Responsibilities:Perform general maintenance and repair work, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC support, carpentry, and paintingRespond to work orders in a timely and professional mannerConduct routine inspections of campus buildings and systemsPerform preventative maintenance on equipment and building systemsTroubleshoot mechanical and building-related issuesAssist with seasonal operations (snow removal, heat changeover, event setups, etc.)Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and orderly conditionFollow safety procedures and campus policiesSupport campus events as neededRead and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specificationsAssist other trades as neededRequired Knowledge and Skills:High school diploma or equivalent requiredTechnical or trade certification preferred2-5 years of general maintenance experience (institutional or commercial preferred)Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and basic carpentryValid driver's licenseOther Qualifications:Working knowledge of computers for tasks including reading email, logging hours and entering work order informationStrong troubleshooting skillsAbility to prioritize, problem solve and manage multiple projectsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamCommunicate effectively with supervisors and campus community membersAbility to follow written and oral instructionsKnowledge of a wide variety of tools and equipmentPhysically able to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditionsAll offers of employment with Valparaiso University are contingent upon the clear results of a thorough background check.
