Multilingual Learners (ML) Teaching AssistantGENERAL DESCRIPTION The ML teaching assistant will assist the ML Specialist to instruct and implement the English Language Development Standard Course of Study curriculum and support content learning in all grades for ML students.GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Works with the ML Specialist in completing Limited English Proficiency forms (ML rosters, accommodation plans, Designated instruction lesson plans for English Language Development (ELD), and Proficiency Level Descriptors, and any other required documentation. Assists ML Specialist in administering and recording such assessment and achievement as recommended for ML students. (WIDA Screener for kindergarten students/ placement and ACCESS for language proficiency) Helps to identify both LEP and migrant students and provide appropriate instruction Follows ELD lesson plans and evidence-based strategies to support LEP students Seeks advice and assistance of ML and classroom teacher to make changes in the instructional plan when evaluation indicates a need. Implements and revises LEP instruction based on student performance and student needs. Implements language resources to support and supplement instructional activities. Renews competence and keeps abreast of new knowledge, research, and practice in language instruction and applies this knowledge to improve the instructional program. Attends appropriate and required staff development to enhance instruction, to align interventions with the NC ELD Standards curriculum, and provides ELD support for school(s). Attends Orientation, Conference Nights, Parent and Family Engagement Nights, ML Parent Nights and other school-related events. Works in a positive manner with students, staff and parents. Provides bilingual support through the use of technology and other communication avenues and will coach stakeholders in the use of technology as a bridge to language support. Maintains high expectations for student performance and achievement in both language proficiency (ACCESS) and academic success. Completes other duties that may be assigned by the ML Specialist and works in ML professional learning communities. Performs other duties as assigned by the director of Federal Programs.EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Must be highly qualified as an ML teaching assistant by: Have an Associate's Degree or have 48 semester hours Experience in working with multilingual children is preferred Passed Work Keys Test Fluent in English Fluent in another second language is preferredDisclaimer The preceding job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
