Baltimore Public Media (BPM) is the parent organization of WYPR 88.1 FM and WTMD 89.7 FM. We provide rich, vibrant programming in news, music, arts, and culture-across expanding radio and digital formats-that connects, enriches, and elevates the residents and communities of Baltimore and the region. Position Summary Baltimore Public Media (WYPR 88.1 FM)seeks acreative and mission-driven News Hostto deliver accurate, engaging, and community-focused news coverage to our listeners. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator with strong editorial judgment, a warm and credible on-air presence, and a passion for public service journalism that reflects and connects the diverse voices of the region. MIDDAY, which airs Monday through Friday 12:00 noon to 1:00pm, provides Marylanders withthe latest news, local and national politics, education and the environment, popular culture and the arts, sports and science, race and religion, movies and medicine.Some shows will spend the hour exploring one topic while other shows will be in a magazine format, in which two or three topics are included. There will also be special broadcasts, (i.e., live election coverage), and the coordination with outside vendors to produce live and pre-recorded in-person broadcasts. The Managing Host oversees MIDDAY staff to planning and coordination of five, one-hour shows per week, and reconfigure content that can be re-aired when necessary. *Note: We will be looking to expand the program to ether a two-hour block or a potential 8am-9am local show along with the duties of a 1-hour program in the afternoon at a future date. Key Responsibilities Serve as on-air host and newscaster during assigned shifts, adhering to allFCC regulationsandWYPR standard operating procedures. Engage listeners in agenuine, authentic, and informedmanner that reflects WYPR's journalistic integrity and community values. Write, produce, and deliveraccurate and compelling local newscasts, ensuring clarity, fairness, and timeliness. Collaborate with editors, reporters, and producers to integratelocal, regional, and national newsinto cohesive programming. Producepromotional and other on-air contentto support station initiatives, special coverage, and community engagement. Serve as afill-in hostfor other WYPR shifts as assigned, maintaining consistent quality and tone across all programming. Participate inspecial news and interview programs, live events, andon-air fundraising campaignsto support the mission and sustainability of Baltimore Public Media. Represent WYPR atcommunity and station events, fostering positive relationships with listeners, partners, and stakeholders. Other responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications At least 10 years of experience in audio journalism, public radio, or podcast production Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and a solid sense of narrative journalism Excellent research, writing, and communication skills Audio editing proficiency (Adobe Audition) Demonstrated ability to elevate diverse voices and topics with nuance and sensitivity Demonstrated patience working with colleagues new to a process General awareness of local and regional news Familiarity with Greater Baltimore's successes, challenges and the diversity within communities is highly preferred Able to lead by example, delegate respectfully and make sound independent decisions, especially in times of breaking news.
