Job Title R&D Technician II (Swing Shift) The R&D Technician II supports the development and pilot production of advanced ceramic materials by operating, cleaning, and maintaining processing equipment used in powder and materials preparation. This role is highly hands-on and involves running milling and spray drying equipment, preparing powders, cleaning equipment between production runs, and supporting the safe and consistent production of critical materials used in advanced applications. The technician works independently for much of the shift while collaborating with other technicians and engineers to ensure materials are produced according to process specifications and safety standards. Key Responsibilities * Operate and monitor ceramic materials processing equipment including mills, mixers, pumps, and spray dryers. * Load and prepare ceramic powders and raw materials for processing. * Perform equipment tear-down, cleaning, and preparation between production runs (approximately 80% of daily work). * Clean and maintain production areas including powder handling systems and spray dryer components. * Handle and move buckets of ceramic media, powders, and materials (50+ lbs) as required. * Maintain a clean and safe work environment while handling powders and materials. * Follow work instructions and process procedures to ensure consistent material production. * Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators and occasional face shields or protective gowns. * Document work activities and assist with maintaining process records. * Collaborate with engineers and team members to support process improvements and troubleshooting. Preferred Qualifications * Experience working with industrial equipment, manufacturing processes, or laboratory processing equipment. * Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools used to disassemble or maintain equipment (wrenches, mechanical components, etc.). * Experience operating mixers, pumps, mills, or similar process equipment. * Background in materials processing, ceramics, chemical processing, or powder handling environments. Work Environment & Physical Requirements * Work involves frequent equipment cleaning and maintenance, including scrubbing equipment and spray dryer surfaces. * Frequent lifting and handling of materials weighing 50 lbs or more. * Regular work with powder materials and production equipment. * Required to wear respirator protection and additional PPE depending on process requirements. * Role can be repetitive and physically active due to the nature of materials processing and equipment cleaning. Required Qualifications * High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years of related technical or manufacturing experience, or * Bachelor's degree with 1 year of relevant experience. * Ability to work independently as a self-starter in a lean team environment. * Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail. * Ability to follow detailed work instructions and maintain process documentation. * Comfortable working in a hands-on production or laboratory environment. Target Hiring Range : USD 22.84 - USD 27.62 Actual compensation is commensurate with experience, skills and education.
